Been sitting on an idling #Southwest jet at #MKE for 3 hours due to weather delays and then a return to the gate for refueling. So after passing through the airport’s ‘Recombobulation Area’ earlier we’re discombobulated again.
Once a forest... just some 200 millions years ago...
Chunks of petrified wood lay strewn among the bentonite mud hills of the Painted Desert, in the Blue Mesa area of Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona; September 2018.
After a day of travel I can confirm #Delta remains my favorite airline. This time they were cheaper than #Southwest and offered a bereavement fare that made it a little cheaper than that.
Plus no chaos at the gate with the cattle lineup, no awful jokes from flight attendents, screens in every seats, USB charging ports. Better in every single way.
#Albuquerque Is Throwing Out the Belongings of #Homeless People, Violating City Policy
The city has violated a court order and its own policies by discarding the personal property of thousands of homeless people, who have lost medications, birth certificates, IDs, treasured family photos and the ashes of loved ones.
Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park (5/13/2023). Monument Valley is part of the Colorado Plateau a geomorphic province of buttes, mesas, volcanoes, deep canyons, & stunning rock colors. Reds & oranges predominate in the geology of the region due to oxidation of the iron rich rocks. There are also numerous fossils, petrified forests, & enumerable cultural sites within the ~336,700km^2 province.
Santa Fe blue doors are usually found adorning old adobe style homes and are a symbol of the architectural charm of this Southwestern city, the capital of New Mexico. The blue is a symbol of the sky and a vibrant contrast to the earth toned adobe. Not just doors, they are artistic expressions.
The Colorado River Flooded Chemehuevi Land. Decades Later, the Tribe Still Struggles to Take Its Share of Water.
The Chemehuevi’s reservation fronts about 30 miles of the #coloradoriver yet 97% of the tribe’s water stays in the river, much of it used by Southern #California cities.
The two-week change map shows degradations extending from the #Southwest to the #Southeast, as well as the #Northwest and north-central regions. The #Midwest and High Plains areas continue to see some improvements.
So far, the forecast max of 129 is a couple degrees off #DeathValley / #UnitedStates highest temperature on record, but has risen a bit as we close in.
Current peak is expected this weekend but no end in sight to high heat. #azwx#cawx

Gallup-McKinley County #Schools enrolls a quarter of New Mexico’s Native #students but was responsible for at least three-quarters of Native expulsions over four years.
I love Zion National Park in Utah, USA. Not the crowds, mind you, but if you're willing to explore the "back 40" of the park, the places not listed on brochures, you find all the majesty and splendor of the landscape, without the noise or crowds.
A solitary red chile ristra hangs on the adobe wall in Santa Fe, adding a pop of color to the rustic scene. Quintessentially the southwest, New Mexico. I get a fresh one every single year to hang outside. You can cook with them too. Digitally painted photography
May the artwork take you to a place of vastness and majesty, a landscape where you can sit and ponder in a state of silent wonder. Be at peace, and rest in serenity and joy.
Everyone wants to go where the view is, but the thing is, the view isn't in just one place.
Lots of people hike Angels Landing Trail in Zion National Park, because there's a fantastic view. But if you step off the trail and take another, less well known one, you still get the view.
May the artwork bring to your soul the joy and independence that living free -- thinking, speaking, and journeying -- engenders, nurtures, and strengthens.
