White-throated sparrows are an immediately recognizable staple of North American forest soundscapes, but I don’t think I ever saw one before getting interested in birds. Very fancy little guys!

The #ProtoBird lived some 120 million years ago & did not have teeth—a trait more similar to #birds of today than to birds of its time—sharpening scientists’ understanding of #avian #evolution.

The #scientists who discovered the #NovelSpecies gave it a name that highlights its uniqueness and pays tribute to the British #naturalist #DavidAttenborough : Imparavis attenboroughi, which means “Attenborough’s strange bird” in Latin.

Anna’s Hummingbirds stay in Seattle all winter long. Growing up in Finland hummingbirds were this elusive tropical thing that you only see in magazines. Its so fun to be able to see them all the time now! This was taken at Union Bay, near UW in Seattle.

The that call home, including hooded warblers, tufted titmice & common grackles, will not be changing their signature tweets, squawks, chirps or peeps, but a well-known group dedicated to protecting the state’s favorite feathered friends is adopting a new moniker amid scrutiny of its former namesake’s acts.

They will be rebranding to “,” but their goal of defending wild birds and their habitats will remain.
