Someone posted this picture of Linda Ronstadt on a bike in 1978 and I wondered where the bike shop was, it reminded me of a shop in North Hollywood I don't think is there anymore, at Ventura Place, Ventura and Laurel Canyon maybe?

I don't know why, I'm sure there's a million bike shops that look like that. But now I can't remember the name of it.

Several people now have tagged me in the Mini arrow-lookin'-tail light thing.

You're correct that it bothers me but you're incorrect if you think the arrow part has much to do with it.

It's bothersome to me only because it's a combined brake and turn indicator!

I am surprised at folks who think the resemblance to an arrow pointing the wrong way is actually confusing: I find it extremely unlikely that people even parse the presence of the arrow over which side of the vehicle is flashing.

amy,

@TechConnectify that totally looks like an arrow.

this is like that test where the word is blue but the letters are green and you have to say one or the other. everybody on the internet will look at it and say “oh that’s easy” but if you’re doing it in the middle of a big cognitive test, with a timer, no it is not, absolutely not

blue hour, last night.

yeah i should've taken 3 steps to the left. don't know why i didn't. next time!

listing some of my "rarer" digicams for sale… KINDA HURTS but i have too many, i can't use them all.

amy, to photography

picked up this Lord 5D for cheap, totally untested, sold by somebody who didn’t know a thing about cameras… cheap, so i could harvest the rare lens

but… it seems practically unused. shutter works, seems in good time. winder works. aperture snappy. super clean (except mold/haze in the VF). rangefinder seems to work.

had a roll of undeveloped kodachrome 64 inside 😭

how can i clean the viewfinder i wonder??

light shining through the CLEAN lens
inside of the camera looking brand new except some dust from its old case

amy,

@MLE_online it’s built amazingly well too!

the MF look 🥵

looking back at some of my old shots on my nikon d70s & the sigma 10-20 that was glued to it… i don’t know why i ever felt the need to upgrade, which landed me with a camera i did NOT like (cmos)

kinda suspect we got glutened on thurs when we met friends for dinner… somehow

we didn’t eat any food there, we brought our own (hard boiled eggs & cold steak)

but we had diet cokes

was reviewin photos from my fuji finepix s5 pro last night

the dynamic range & recoverability of this ccd sensor is just absolutely beyond

sharpness not so much, tho. it has a STRONG aa filter and the VF is not great. i really don't think the old mf nikon zoom lens i took on this trip was adequate.

i think, like the sigma merrill sensor, it requires super ultra sharp lenses and perfect focus or else it comes out too soft for yt

the full scene with beautiful sunset light limning the trees and field where the goats are grazing. there's a small water tower and some buildings in the background.

i was looking back at photos from last spring and it's funny, i can pinpoint when my interest in busier, less-traditional compositions started

and it was this photo

usually when photographers have "GAS" (gear acquisition syndrome) it's new and shiny

but not me, no siree!

i'm spending hours trying to figure out which roached out antique kodak vest pocket camera i need to buy to get the meniscus lens for soft focus

this is healthy.

amy,

@Vaguery that’s how you know you’re serious!

amy,

@mattly i have heard this from multiple people 😂

haven't had the brainergy to post on 2 sites and i was enjoying bsky bc it gives that sweet sweet dopamine

anyway while i was gone, my gluten detection service dog in training (Pixie) washed out entirely.

but… her brother partially washed out only due to anxiety in public, probably age-related, and likely fixable. still, he could not go to his intended handler (a literal child) for this reason. (she got another dog.)

so he came home to us!

say hello to Rocco!!

amy,

Rocco arrived on Dec 14, and seemed pretty good for the first week; we went on walks on our property, & to the vet.

then he suddenly regressed. he became terrified of everyone & everything. wouldn't come out of his crate. wouldn't even SLEEP, he'd sit upright til he passed out then wake up again.

now with gabapentin, a strict schedule, TIME and dedication…

he's finally doing much better! he's happy and he trains with me.

still haven't gotten him back outside yet… but SOON.

amy,

he's been giving me his belly for rubs for about a week now.

a few days ago, he suddenly decided to go up the stairs… he wouldn't go near them before.

today he wagged his tail for the first time.

and he is doing a good job on the scent training!

hoping in the next 2-3 weeks, he'll be ready to check actual food!

amy,

i can't get over the ludicrousness of having an "indoor dog." but it was outdoors when he had the panic meltdown that started this, and the next few times i took him out, he got more and more afraid. terrified of the door, terrified of the porch… trying to escape.

i just can't force him without undoing all the good we did.

so i just have to keep luring him closer and closer to the door & getting him used to outdoor sounds & smells by opening windows

amy, to random

finally feel not like death

must be time to get obsessed with and buy another lens!

amy,

@codinghorror thank you! <3

So, having read the Bluesky blog posts + Platformer, it looks to me like Bluesky is:

  1. running a big content moderation team on their own pre-open-federation servers (they're technically federating internally, but you can't run your own instance yet)

  2. building out mod tools for server admins to use once federation opens

  3. layering on a lot of user-controlled stuff that will run on top of server mods

I think on principle…those are all good things to do. (Execution will matter.)

[1/3]

amy,

@kissane i read a post that claimed nobody else will be able to run a tagging service and that bluesky will keep that to themselves. not sure how i feel about that

accidentally having an involved conversation with a member of staff at the hotel over what makes a good signpost

i mean, signposts don't just tell you where things are, they tell you how to get there

this all happened because i pointed out the accessible toilet directions point to the stairs yesterday
