Camp #3: On the far east side of the San Rafael Swell north of Cisco Utah. Saw some great pictographs today! (Stay tune. Will post a little later.) Tomorrow, it's blow through the zoo of Moab and head to the San Juan River. (Phone photo.)
Dawn view of The Watchman, an outcrop jutting deep into Karekare Bch & site of a pā built ~1750 (📷1). Accessed down the hill in Piha by walking up Glenesk Rd (closed to non-resident 🚗), 3-tier 40m Kitekite Falls (📷2). Above the falls youths were manu back slap training in large swimming hole—seeking combo of style, splash size & acoustics (📷3)! Others chilled in infinity-edged smaller pool (📷4).
Located in a collapsed lava tube, Bandera's ice cave never rises above 31º Fahrenheit. You feel the temperature change dramatically as you descend the stairs. The igneous (volcanic) stone insulates like the ultimate Yeti cooler. The ice has been accumulating for more than 3,400 years (based on core samples tested). It is more than 20-feet deep and regenerates as new rain and snow melt seep into the cave.
Just returned from our first long-ish roadtrip (520 km) with the kids, which was also my first long drive in a Tesla, even though I got my first one four years ago. The kids, the car, and the superchargers all behaved nicely, so I'm sure we'll do this again sooner rather than later. #roadtrip#roadtrips#kids#children#parenting#ev#tesla
Saw some Western Grebe feeding/parenting behavior today at the Bill Williams NWR near Parker, Arizona. The adult caught a fish, then delivered it to a very excited juvenile that was able to choke it down. #birds#birdphotography#NaturePhotography#grebes#RoadTrip#ParkerAZ
#Rafting season has begun. Los Rios River Runners is my "go-to" for the Rio Grande and the Rio Chama. Whitewater typically last until early June (varies based on year/snowfall). Float trips are available into October.
When you pull up driving directions to the city you're moving to and can see the curvature of the earth and stars in the background 😳 #Alaska#anchorage#NewMexico#roadtrip
Puye Cliff Dwellings | The village consisted of two levels of caves cut into the cliffs and the ruins of a large pueblo on top of the mesa. There are over a dozen “stairs” from the top of the mesa to the base of the cliff. The stairs linked the Community House on top of the mesa to the dwellings at the base of the cliff, as well as to sources of water north of the pueblo - https://newmexiconomad.com/puye-cliff-dwellings/
At 7250-feet above sea level, Continental Divide is on the original (1926) trajectory of #Route66. There are a few houses, a gas station, and a post office, with east-west trains regularly passing by.
I just noticed that my favorite sliced bread company (Gabriel’s Bakery, though I think they’re more known for their bagels 😂) have a new brand video out and they’re such a lovely family! Available at your local New Seasons; the walnut one is the best! #Portland#PDX 🍞🥯❤️ (EDIT: Also available at Whole Foods but some locations only have the bagels.) https://youtu.be/wMZbXMiF4lg?si=3k6ej0naxkKi84Un

Thanks! This will be my first (and probably only) visit to #pdx#portland so I'll be trying to fit in as many "local" experiences as possible in my limited time. That looks like it could fit into my wanderings. I'm staying at NW Portland Hostel, in what's primarily a camping #roadtrip so that I can be in the thick of things!
