“I use a wheelchair and I want more bike lanes”:

  1. Many disabled people use bikes.
  2. Many of us consider our electric bikes, scooters and trikes to be mobility devices.
  3. Lots of people cannot drive
  4. More people using cycleways means fewer cars on the road, which makes it easier for disabled and chronically ill people who use cars

North America is wierd when it comes to transportation. It’s important to remember when reading things about and that American baselines about how things work are not the same as yours.

innen. Nein, diese Forderung ist nicht radikal.

"The priority should not be to replace every car with its electric equivalent but rather to rethink #mobility in general.

"Placing so much focus on the automobile and even now the electric automobile is not the way that we solve our mobility problems, but rather it's time to invest in #transit, in #cycling, in walkable cities, to get people out of #cars altogether," they said."

Does anyone in the and/or community on Mastodon use an electric bicycle as a mobility aid to get out and about?

I would love to be able to go outside more, but the price of electric bikes is fairly prohibitive. It would need to be folding so that I can be rescued if necessary 🙃 Have you found the outlay worth it?

Any helpful comments from e-bikers gratefully received

Hello Mastodon! #introduction 👋 I am Lucas (call me Luuk) from The Netherlands 🇳🇱 Starting my #PhD research at Uni Salzburg, Department of Geoinformatics, in Austria 🇦🇹 It's about human-centric #datascience for #sustainable #mobility planning. How does the way we design streets influence our perceptions of accessibility, and how can we measure this? 🌆 Happy to share thoughts and learn a lot. When I tell people that >20% of the population everywhere cannot drive, they always quibble about including children in that calculation. I think it says a lot about our car brained society that it's normal to think minors shouldn't have independent mobility.

Throwing this out into the ether on the off-chance:

I have a Green Power Electric Boot Scooter BH220. I need to remove the battery. Green Power won't tell me how as they want to charge for an engineer to come out.

It has a handle and I'm meant to be able to take it inside to charge it. I was shown how to remove it when I first got it, but I can't remember. I can lift w/handle, but it feels stuck at the front end. How do I release it?

Did you know that you can purchase an electric vehicle for as little as $1,000?

Not only that, these vehicles also:

  • Can skip traffic jams
  • Be parked virtually anywhere
  • Get over 1,000 mpge
  • Emits no harmful air pollution
  • Don't require a government permit or expensive insurance
  • Can easily be repaired by yourself, and don't require long waits at expensive dealerships
  • Include optional exercise equipment, allowing you to choose to get exercise while in transit (if you want) and skip the gym membership
  • Can be operated by people of almost any age, so your kids can now transport themselves

What is this vehicle I'm describing? Some sort of newfangled flying car? A quantum teleporter?

No: It is the humble electric bicycle.

Spread the word.
