The BBC coverage of the in tonight is grotesque.

"The IDF said it had targeted Hamas militants in the area and said it was aware of reports the strike had ignited a fire which harmed civilians. It was reviewing the incident but said it had used precision weapons against legitimate targets."

Why is the BBC chewing Netanyahu's cuds again? Because it doesn't have any journalists on the ground. And why not? Because the IDF kills journalists.

There's a lack transparency regarding UK deaths. If you look for the ONS figures — which are squirrelled away in a spreadsheet — you will get this message:

"Due to the low numbers of COVID-19 deaths (fewer than ‘influenza or pneumonia’), detailed breakdowns (i.e., by age and place of occurrence) are no longer included in the 2024 edition of this dataset."

"Influenza or pneumonia" are two different things. One is a virus. One is a symptom: lung inflammation, with multiple causes.

There's another possibly related point, which is that the new ONS methodology for tracking excess deaths relies on age groupings — something now no longer transparent regarding public covid stats. I'm not a statistician, but I don't understand giving the public less information when the system is set up for more. We already have to hunt through spreadsheets and disappearing gov't pages for the little available

The ONS has created a new methodology for calculating . It uses age brackets.

We don't have the details yet, but apparently it cuts the excess mortality dramatically.

I am naturally sceptical as to the timing of this, but here's the link to their announcement:

Did you know there's an instagram account called "Go Outside For Me" where you can share videos with people who can't often go out due to disability?

The videos are just simple, first-person, without talking & the audience is folks who have and other mobility-limiting conditions.

Does anyone in the and/or community on Mastodon use an electric bicycle as a mobility aid to get out and about?

I would love to be able to go outside more, but the price of electric bikes is fairly prohibitive. It would need to be folding so that I can be rescued if necessary 🙃 Have you found the outlay worth it?

Any helpful comments from e-bikers gratefully received

Just to make this clear to the non-Germans amongst my mutuals: there were not "10s of thousands" on the streets against #fascism in #Germany but 100s of thousands, probably around 1.4 million in total. The largest demonstrations since reunification.

I simply cannot look at the grotesque absurdity of a operated by the same people who continue to rubber-stamp & the ongoing mass disabling event that is .

The entire weight of rests on those most affected; the poor, the working class, the disabled, & minorities of colour & culture.

And there is no redress for that available within the system. Raising it at any level simply generates the same Party line. The ultimate customer service experience

Aggravating random centrists have flung drive-by insults and then blocked me for suggesting the Scottish government ought not to incentivise the arms trade.

Meanwhile, the factories taxpayers involuntarily subsidise continue to churn out civilian destruction.

Objecting to these things isn't a radical position. It's pretty average, TBH. One huge thing the has laid bare is just how many of the comfortable middle talk left but walk right.

The status quo isn't enough.

I'm tired of #Holyrood pointing at Westminster as the sole British contributor to the #genocide & #apartheid in #Gaza / #Israel

The Scottish government has developed financial strategies, provides support & grants millions in public money, all of which go directly towards arms manufacture in Scotland.

Like #labour , the #snp is happy to use "British jobs" as an excuse to fund #warcrimes . They have the devolved powers to disincentivise arms manufacture in #Scotland

And they don't.
