On Friday, I had pan-fried, left over, macaroni cheese for dinner. The START / STOP buttons on my microowave have stopped working, so I couldn't reheat it.

I'm trying to fix the buttons now. They are on a flat plastic panel and seem to have contacts that get better contact when pressed, and I think that they now longer "spring" open again.

Does anyone know how I could fix these?

Thanks for your answers everyone. Looks like linen and casein might be the front-runner for now. I’m going to give it a go. It will be a conversation point when people ask me why my bike smells like rotten milk.

Thanks @amcewen

Does anybody know if there’s a traditional composite material that behaves something like fibreglass? As in fibre/fabric laid up in a binder of some sort to make a stiff material in arbitrary forms.

Paper mache is one but it’s too weak (I think, maybe there's a super version?). I'm considering things like cotton or flax in casein glue or pine resin... but I doubt it will work.

(And my last casein glue experiment stunk like rotten milk for weeks!)

I should clarify, the point is to be biodegradable, I already know I can mix epoxies with flax fibre for a pretty strong composite, for example. But epoxies aren't biodegradble.

YouTube has been trying to convince me to watch videos from NerdForge for a while now. Last night, I actually watched one.

a) damn she's good. So skilled at so many things.
b) just went back and watched one of her / their first videos from 7 years ago. It was... not bad. A very reasonable video on building an Iron Throne phone charge.

It's impressive to see how she/they (her and her partner filming it) went from such an "average" starting point to 3.16M subscribers, & a huge studio.

Thinking about getting a tap and die set. Don't need one now but i have plans fomenting that are likely going to need one.

McMaster-Carr (1st pic): $96
Amazon equivalent: $25 w/ 4.4 ⭐

That… amazon price feels sus. Quick check of the 1 star verified purchase reviews. Oh, look. They lied about the metal hardness and they self-destruct during the 1st use (2nd pic) & aren't straight. 🤦‍♀️ i HATE cheap Chinese crap & their seller's complete lack of morals.

a photograph from a reviewer showing how the tap wasn't hard enough and the threads mushed after 1 use. There were others.

I found 1 - ONE ❗- Company that actually has a "metric magnets" section: https://www.apexmagnets.com/magnets/metric-sizes

Feel like walking up and slapping 👏 whatever political ass-holes have been preventing us from switching to the metric system. 📏

Decisions were made, and I am reasonably confident they were not good. In the time it took me to figure out this janky-ass solution I could have just re-printed the jig at a different height.

This whole set up is so sketch that I think I will do that anyways. Better safe than emergency room.

The problem is that the rods I am cutting need to be positioned very precisely such that they encounter the spinning Dremel blade, but do not encounter the body of the Dremel

So, TIL that when you clamp a Dremel to a work surface that works surface turns into a speaker when you turn on the Dremel. It is far too loud for me to be doing it in the basement while wifey is attempting to accomplish work that requires focus.

So that’ll have to wait ‘till tonight

Does anyone here have experience with for ? It looks affordable - I was wondering how close it was the “regular” solid works software.

I’d like to have really robust 3D part design software, and all kinds of industries use SolidWorks - if it operates the same way. (Like how the old Photoshop Elements contained 90% of Photoshop for a fraction of the price. If you could use Elements you could use regular Photoshop.)

(Guidance/boosts appreciated.)
