There's a new map style on OpenStreetMap.org! The Tracestrack Topo map from @tracestrack.
It's a mix of osm-carto and OpenTopoMap. It has many improvements: more tag support (busway, embankment, cuisine, solar plants, aquaculture, pitch, sea, tree etc.), CJK fonts, etc. There is
also better internationalisation: country specific road shields, peaks
using imperial system in the US, hierarchical place rendering in China, etc. #OpenStreetMap#OSM#gischat#maps
Cool map showing the date of the most recent total eclipse for every point in Indiana. Made by the Holcomb Observatory & Planetarium at Butler University.
Great concept, and I'm wondering if anyone has seen a similar map for a larger area, ideally an interactive map for the entire world where you can see the year of the last eclipse wherever you are. The data is available, so surely someone has made such a map?
Besides following hashtags, such as #GISChat, #QGIS, #FOSS4G, and #OSGeo, curating good lists is probably the best way to stay up to date with geospatial developments. To get you started (or to potentially enrich your existing lists), I thought I'd share my #Geospatial and #SpatialDataScience lists with you.

How do you approach questions of sustainability & #AIethics in your #GeoAI work?
Key finding: spatial analysis reveals value of proximity to schools, with 7.29% decrease on average for each km to the elementary school in the catchment.
has anyone else spotted a new theme / colour palette on Google Maps recently? it's really nice. if someone could tell someone at Google to make it win the AB test that'd be great :D
#gischat I don't know why I'm coming up short on this - how can I make a map with some polygons separated like this? I'm currently trying it in #ArcGISpro but would be happy to execute it in #QGIS or #rspatial. I hope the answer isn't #Inkscape or similar, but I may go there.
It's my pleasure to share with you that #Trajectools 2.0 just landed in the official #QGIS Plugin Repository. This is the first version without the "experimental" flag. If you look at the plugin release history, you will see that the previous release was from 2020. That's quite a while ago, and a lot has happened since…
For the past 2 weeks or so we’ve had an ongoing earthquake swarm very close to the town of Grindavík in the Reykjanes Peninsula. The swarm is very likely caused by an inflating magma body currently at about 5 km depth. The shape of the body is most likely a flat sill expanding and causing earthquakes. These events might lead to an eruption very close to people’s homes and lots of infrastructure.
Today, I was again reminded that I'm not Apache admin enough to set it up correctly for #QGIS Server.
Luckily, there's a #Docker container to save the day: spin it up, put the project file in the data dir, and off you go with WMS, WFS, and wfs3 / OGC API
I lost my bookmark for this browser-based GIS site, which allowed rudimentary GIS operations, and (I thought) was an excellent way of having hands-on GIS exercises, without having to install any software.
Sounds awesome, right? It was some time ago since I last used it, and it was free, and didn't require any registration.
Does anyone know the site (or recommend something similar)?
I've been so far unsuccessful with the web search, and couldn't find anything close.
I thought it might be interesting for some of the #gischat members of Mastodon to share some of my everyday map making. A thread with a single map and some info on the data, techniques, tips, and tricks. Let's go!
This map shows a recent #InSAR analysis for a volcanic caldera named Torfajökull. The InSAR signal shows there is surface inflation in the center of the volcanic caldera indicating sub-surface magma movement.

Got #Jira, #FME and #QGIS all hooked up on #GIThub for the first time in my #GIS career....
....why didn't anyone tell me about this sooner??!!
Complete game changer for managing teams and workloads!
