The light was beautiful this morning. All hazy, gentle and soft. The path in the middle on the right is the entrance to the #stumpery. Lots of new planting this year, which will only reach full height next year.
We easily see hawks command the skies looking for prey. But there’s a small world nearly unnoticed in a garden built for #biodiversity. Here, a female Widow Skimmer Dragonfly perches quietly on a spent flower stalk from an Asiatic Lily, looking for mosquitoes near my pond. By the time they see her coming, it’s too late. Hawk in miniature.
I was a bit worried about Carrot because I had to trim her pretty heavily, but the rubbing alcohol spray seems to have really reduced the spider mites’ population and now she’s on her way to being bushier than ever, it seems. #mint#gardening#plants#gardenphotography#photography
Beyond a fortress of cloistered walls, a canopy of luscious greens channel winds of rejuvenation. And into a rapturous garden, rhapsody spills crystal showers awakening the lilt of a lark in glorious splendor.
Harvesting the seedpods of the winged pea (Lotus purpureus)
Next to the typical vegetables that we grow every year we always also try something new to learn and have more variety in our garden and on the plate. Since we live on an old farm, we like to try old forgotten species and varieties like these winged peas.
