Almost time for another amazing group/social ride with Femmes & Thems - A safe space for women, femme, non-binary and trans Chicagoans to ride bikes together🚲 No-drop social rides every 1st Saturday of the month.
We just published the first complete Rail Trail Map of New England! By adding Connecticut we now map and list all rail trails available in all six New England states - an area bigger than Old England! https://www.trailspotting.com/p/trailspotting-rail-trails.html
I think I finally convinced my husband that we should get ebikes!! I'm excited. I really wanted an electric car for as long as I can remember, but this feels like the best step for us at this point. We barely drive as it is anymore, so I can't see the need for us to spend $$$ on a newer/replacement car in the near future. Already dreaming of the trips we can take on them vs what we can manage on our regular bikes. #bicycling#ebike
From Bandare Laft we took the ferry to Iran mainland. Our plan was to pedale along the coast northwards, to stay a bit longer in the warmth. The weatherforcast for the inland regions (Shiraz, Yazd etc. ) is still a bit chilly, espeacially at night...
Too many Americans seem to use #disability as an excuse for a car-centric infrastructure.
"Some people will not be physically able to use #bicycling . Therefore, there is no point in developing bicycle-friendly urban infrastructure!"
Look, no one is saying that all cars should be banned forever. For those who really cannot get around without a car, this should still be an option.
But pointing out that American cities are deeply locked into a car-centric infrastructure is not #ableism . We should all strive to give our cities more alternatives for transportation infrastructure - whether the people using it are disabled or not.
And I must say that requiring everyone to use car - like most American urban regions are doing - is in effect a massive form of discrimination against the poor. In such areas, you must own a car to be a functional member of society, and spend the money, time, and effort to maintain it.
And if you are unable to do so, society will shunt you out.
May we proudly introduce:
Pauline and Madmax ❤️🚲🚲❤️
Wow, look at these beautiful bikes! 🥰Even though the bike assembling is now almost 2 years ago, we are still so in love with them, like we had finished them 2 days ago 😍
Let's highlight some special gear and parts:
First, our frames were built by mawis-bikes in Germany - like you already know from the previous post!👍
Second, we went with a 1x11 drivetrain from Garbaruk, and we are really impressed with the quality 👌 To keep our smartphones charged while riding, we chose the 'Son' dynamo hub and 'Sinewave Cycles' charger. Very stable an reliable 💪 And to give a bit of comfort to our buts we selected the 'Infinity Seat' saddles 🫶
Let's look back 🔭
Some weeks and months before we sat off on this journey - this new stage of our lives - we had a lot of preparation to do.
Besides selling and giving away all our belongings, we built our own bikes 🚲🚲 Special thanks to Mathias - mavis-bikes - for the beautiful frames 🫶
Marc welded in our one-room flat gorgeous racks and bottlecages. Fiona prototyped and sewed bags, sleeping bag inlays, buffs, and other useful stuff...
Serious politics going on to try to disrupt a plan to make Los Angeles safer for pedestrians and cyclists. Quite a bit of car-supporting backlash, highlighting the issues that seem to come up in any plan to attempt to battle fossil fuels usage.
Candidate for City Council:
“We don’t have room for bicycle lanes that one person might ride down once a day,” he said. “We need the mobility, and we need it for cars.”
Yesterday, I was hit by a car that rolled through a stop sign at a poorly designed 2-way stop. Later, I spoke in front of Columbus City Council to demand that they redesign these intersections, which they have already done elsewhere.
Excuse my outfit, this is what I was wearing when I was hit.
Normally I don’t start riding my bike until around April. My bike has a high centre of gravity and simply cannot handle any slipperiness whatsoever. But since it is already 7 degrees at a time of year which should be about -7, I rode my bike for the first time of the year. I am so conflicted. The spring weather is lifting my spirits despite me knowing that this warm a temperature this early cannot possibly bode well. I’m afraid of what this summer will bring. #ClimateDiary#bicycling
