There is not a #scarcity of funds for #transportation in the US. We spend tens of billions every year on #road construction and maintenance. That's a policy choice.
We could choose instead to pay for other things, like robust #PublicTransit & comprehensive supports for #walking and #bicycling.
Don't let anyone tell you there's not enough $. We have gobs of $. We just spend it to subsidize the least economically rational form of transportation.
So it's been a while since I've rode with a speedometer on my bike (about a year, maybe two), and I wasn't sure what my speed's been like
My sprint is really bad right now. I pulled about 42 kph on a short straight, but I didn't have the energy to go much more into it. My last top speed was ~55 kph
My average riding speed is much better though! I was riding on average 25-28 kph before, but now I can hold 28-32 kph pretty confidently, it seems.
Let's see how these numbers hold up over the next few rides... #cycling#bicycling
So I can't join #30DaysOfBiking as my trusty folding bike is back home in Selangor and I'm in #Penang, but I'm happy to see these bikes at Gurney Drive.
As a #Malaysian however, I'd say you'd be pretty bonkers to bike down Gurney Dr though.
Use it to explore the inner roads instead, but you don't get to see the sea. Not that you can see much of it these days at Gurney 🙃
Supposing its time to create an #introduction post.
My name is Nick and I've been living in central Ohio the past few years. Currently working in food service.
Have plenty of IT support experience as well, but found I enjoy computers as my hobby instead of a career.
Decided to bike to the supermarket that was 2km from my apartment today. It took about 20min from door to parking lot. It would have been much faster if I didnt have to cross a major road and stop for passing cars.
I found a pedestrian walkway to cycle on but it wasn't ideal. First, it is for pedestrians. Two, it was dotted with carpark entrances 😅 So i had to keep stopping every 50m.
