Large cities in Japan, like Tokyo and Osaka, have amazing public transportation. But you can’t see much from a subway. Consider getting around on a bicycle instead. Here's how to do it.
I don’t think I realized how healthy bicycling is. Huzzah!
> A substantial body of evidence supports the health benefits of cycling, everything from strengthening the immune system to boosting the likelihood of living longer. Now, a new study finds people who are in the habit of riding a bike are significantly less likely to have osteoarthritis and experience pain in their knees by age 65, compared to people who don't bike.
“I’m wondering if something subliminal has happened after reading Bicycling Monterey. I’ve been riding the Rock Island Greenway Trail for the last week and a half. Just a wonderful and beautiful ride! It’s not Monterey, California, but a real gem for Peoria, Illinois.”—Richard Coers
bike to work day 150k. a friend of mine and i took yesterday off and went for an epic ride from rockville to brunswick. 110km was on the towpath and it was a lovely day some highlights below. we did see a lot of cow parsnip along the towpath. do not touch that plant. @bikedc#cycling#bike (1/2)
@bikedc here is a great photo of the snake that was unhappy with me having disturbed it. this is after it struck my wheel once and was confused why the wheel didn't react. it stayed coiled up until we left and then it was gone when we returned on our way home. #cycling#bicycling#bike
El Pais: "It’s rush hour on Rue de Rivoli, one of the main arteries of the French capital. The bicycles pass one after another in quick succession, ringing their bell when a pedestrian crosses without looking. Five years ago, it was cars that monopolized this three-kilometer axis that runs in front of Paris City Hall and the Louvre Museum. Not anymore. Two-wheel transportation has prevailed, favored by a paradigm shift in urban mobility. " #BikeTooter#infrastructure#bicycling#cycling
El Pais: "From north to south and east to west, the map of the capital has been filled with infrastructure that gives the bicycle a privileged place. Paris has more than 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) of facilities adapted for cyclists, including more than 300 km (186 m) of bike lanes and 52 km (32 m) of provisional lanes, according to the latest available municipal data, from 2021. The rest are lanes shared with cars or lanes only marked with paint on the ground." #BikeTooter#cycling#bicycling

If you pay attention to cyclists in Japan for a few minutes, you’ll realize that what's legal and what cyclists do are two different things. You’ll see people bicycling on both the left and right sides of the road, blowing past stop lights, and generally being menaces.

I think I finally convinced my husband that we should get ebikes!! I'm excited. I really wanted an electric car for as long as I can remember, but this feels like the best step for us at this point. We barely drive as it is anymore, so I can't see the need for us to spend $$$ on a newer/replacement car in the near future. Already dreaming of the trips we can take on them vs what we can manage on our regular bikes. #bicycling#ebike
From Bandare Laft we took the ferry to Iran mainland. Our plan was to pedale along the coast northwards, to stay a bit longer in the warmth. The weatherforcast for the inland regions (Shiraz, Yazd etc. ) is still a bit chilly, espeacially at night...
