One of the presents I got for Christmas is a large bag of seeds of bee-friendly plants. I don't know the English names of any of them, but they all look like common field herbs and flowers. Can't wait to plant them in my garden. #bloomscrolling#beesofmastodon
Going through old pictures I came across this bumblebee on a lavender plant and it reminded me of warmer days. Thought I'd share it for those in the cold like me. 🥶
Have a good rest of the night or start to your day! 🌃 🌄
Had a cute little fuzzy visitor today, an orange banded bumblebee. I gave it some sugar water so hopefully that will help it get through its busy bee day. 🐝 #BeesOfMastodon
Took this picture of a local beehive around the #Vancouver commercial area a few years back. There is a little community garden right next to it with a public ‘take a book leave a book’ stand. Love that idea.
Really like how the colours of this one turned out. #bees are super important for the environment and I hope more communities can get behind supporting their local #bee population with planting pollinators and setting up hives.
Sweat bees are quite common here in Canada, and they are known to lick the sweat (salt) from people's skin. If this happens to you, feel lucky that you fed a sweat bee! Here is a sweat bee on a mint plant in our backyard.
So you’re a red arsed #bumblebee worker. You’ve been working the flowers for hours collecting nectar/pollen. You need a bit of ‘me’ time before you return to the hustle and bustle of the nest…
We changed out the queen's deep super this afternoon, added a new deep super, & put all on a new base board. (Old base board was disgusting.) I think we need a new lid, too! 😅 Geeze... At least they were pretty tame. We were sweatin'. 🥵 #saskatraz#bees#beekeeping#honey#beesofmastodon
Hi #beesofmastodon folks, I set up a hummingbird feeder in my hibiscus shrub and it just occurred to me the bees are going nuts for it. Is it okay for them to have the sugary hummingbird solution?
Many people asking us about #bumblebees at the moment - why they’re seeing them on the ground - so what follows is a quick series of toots to explain what they’re up to. Please #boost as every #queen bumblebee that survives means a new colony that gets to exist and produce new queen bees for next year! 1/8
