Looks like another successful #OpenStreets for #boston#dorchester with a whole bunch of both gov and charity causes pitching their ideas alongside music, games, food and plenty of nicks and nacks.
The real success is seeing RBCs (roving bands of children) just enjoying the #carFree street. More of this!
I would love hiking / walking shoes that don't get wet, don't get holes in, and last more than a year. I treat mine well, clean them, spray them with the special spray to keep them water tight, and yet..
👟Happy National #Walking Month! We celebrated in style today with our THIRD free community fitness outdoor event at The #Fitness Court in Malden. 🌳
It was a fantastic morning filled with a fun body weight workout💪🏾 for all ages and abilities. Everyone gave it their all, and we finished strong with an invigorating 2 mile power⚡️walk and some relaxing stretches!
😅We're all about building a healthy #community through movement, laughter, and connection!
A modest proposal for keeping people outside of #cars alive by Dan Marshall @streetsmn
"I’d start with installing Great Big #Bollards at all bus shelters. The fact that we don’t protect #transit shelters tells us everything we need to know about modern American morality... Streetlights, signs and stoplights are all built w breakaway bolts to protect drivers and minimize vehicle damage when hit"
Thursday:
101 seconds of plank
11 minutes of yoga for runners (#AppleFitness)
20 minutes of strength training
30 minutes of HIIT
6.4 km of #walking (10°C, 11km/hr wind)
…a few hours later, 6 km of #cycling for a #Filmmaking meeting to go over some stuff from the shoot.
Pretty pleased this morning, after all the workouts, got the walking speed under 9 minutes per KM, so that made me happy at least. Knee still seems to be okay. 🤔
Can also confirm that I still do not like burpees (in HIIT). 🤣
A throwback to two years ago and this wonderful wild garlic-lined bridleway. It was part of an absolutely cracking 15 mile walk I did from Kingsbridge to Dartmouth on a perfect May day. Need more of those now!
An actual warm and sunny day for my walk #today, though very windy on the tops. It’s finally starting to dry out underfoot too. #Northumberland#Walking
📌Upcoming Walking & Fitness Group Event at the Fitness Court in Malden!
🤔Did you know? May is National Walking Month🚶🏾♂️Join us Sat. May 4th for a fun-filled morning workout with people of all ages and abilities.
💪🏾We'll start with some bodyweight exercises, then hit the pavement for an invigorating 2-mile power⚡️walk. It's a supportive and inclusive environment - all about building a healthy community through movement, laughter😀, and connection!
Tuesday: 122 seconds of plank, 11 minutes of yoga, 30 minutes of HIIT, 21 minutes of strength, followed by 6.5 km of #walking (7°C with wind gusts to 32km/hr).
The strength training really kicked my butt this morning, probably because @TAV picked it. 🤣
I was hoping for my stroll pace to get under 9 minutes/km, but not quite. I'll blame the wind. Knee felt okay, will resist running to Monday.
🗺️ Is there an app that keeps track of where you’ve walked on a map, so you can seek out streets you haven’t been down yet? Sort of a gamification of exploring one’s neighborhood (or someone else’s while traveling).
EDIT: Looks like https://citystrides.com/ is exactly what I was asking for. Also, Personal Heatmap in Strava subscription may work too. Thanks, everyone!
'“We need to ensure that every child can walk or cycle to school safely”: All political parties – except the Conservatives – agree “children’s safety should be prioritised over the convenience of motorists” on “red-rated” road network, families say'
I had 90 minutes while my son was in soccer practice. It took 30 minutes to get to this area, and I needed 30 minutes to get back to the soccer field, so only 30 minutes or less to explore and fish. I felt like I was just driving because I also needed to drive between the soccer field and home 🤔
At some point, I should spend more time exploring this creek 🤔
I'm happy to present the last paper from my thesis!
Lisa Li and I set out to build a model of fly walking which is based on 3D kinematics data, handles perturbations, and includes sensorimotor delays. (This was supervised by Bing Brunton and @tuthill )
We set up a new modeling framework, generated fly walking with kinematics matched to real data, a simple metric for quantifying similarity of trajectories, and found constraints on delays for robust walking!
