Sometimes when we walk, we pass by this statue of Jesus at the Queen of Angels Church right off Welles Park in Lincoln Square. We often call him Bangra Jesus. Put on some Bangra music and look at the photo - ROFL
Stone on the shore of the North Branch of the Chicago River. A world contained in every opening. You never know what you might find if you only look closely.
Saw this last week on my way to work. These butterflies were everywhere around Chicago! I was struck but the contrast of the butterfly with the faded college posters.
Been a bit busy so I have not had a chance to post in a while - hope to post some more photos over the next few days. I really enjoy #Pixelfed but sometimes hate posting from my phone. Looking forward to the update that will allow HEIC photos from the website.
We went to Devon Avenue (Little India / Little Pakistan) yesterday for some shopping. It is Ramadan right now and many places are having Ramadan or Eid sales. The photo is not the best. The day was grey and you can see the reflection in the window. But there is just something that I really liked about the sign.
One of the more iconic signs in River North. I took this on Thursday evening on my way to church for Maundy Thursday. I feel lucky to have seen the sign in this light because I am not usually there at this time.
Dome of Sulzer Regional Library, Ravenswood, Chicago. We really lucked out when we moved to this neighbourhood. It is a true 15 minute neighbourhood and our one of our favorite spots is the Library.
A sign on Taylor Street in Little Italy, Chicago. On the day I took the photo I was supposed to have lunch with colleagues. I didn't read the mail close enougg. Instead of having a catered lunch on campus, I walked a very long way to go to the restaurant we were getting catering from!
Honestly, I probably needed the walk more than the lunch. I got to see Taylor Street more closely, and there are alot of unique places all along the street.
Will share more photos of Taylor Street as the weather warms up!
In my neighborhood there are a number of what I assume to be old corner stores converted into apartments. I saw this last week and I just found the door really striking. I never noticed the paint on the top of the columns made to look like plants. Such a nice small detail!
The interior dome of the Baha'i House of Worship for North America in Wilmette, Illinois. I am a bit ashamed that I snuck the photo (no cameras aloud) but I assure you, I did it most respectfully. At the center of the dome is a Baha'i symbol called the "Greatest Name," which translates as "O Thou Glory of Glories."
Fencing with shadows in front of the Baha'i House of Worship for North America in Wilmette, Illinois. I just love the way the shadows and light play on the pavement.
Another exterior photograph of the Baha'i House of Worship for North America in Wilmette, Illinois. On most of the nine sides are quotes from Bahaullah. He was a prophet from 19th century Iran who, according to Baha'is, is the manifestation of God for the current age. This particular quote - "The Earth is but one Country - and Mankind its Citizens" - is a particularly important one for Baha'is.
Two close up images of the Baha'i House of Worship for North America in Willamette, Illinois.
It is made of a special concrete designed to withstand the extreme temperatures. It has nine sides (a sacred number for Bahais) and has imagery from many major world religions.
At the absolute end of the Purple Line on the CTA overlooking Lake Michigan is the Baha'i House of Worship for North America in Wilmette, Illinois.
It is the oldest existing House of Worship for the Baha'i Faith. One of the newest world religions, the Baha'i faith emphasizes the unity of all religions, equality of men and women, and a new revelation from Bahaullah, the most recent Manifestation of God.
I came here in February because I was feeling particularly drained from work. I wanted to go to someplace quiet where I could disconnect for an hour or two. The space is peaceful and calm. It is open to all people no matter their beliefs. And when the Spring comes, the gardens around the site bloom.
A really striking building we saw today while walking through Lakeview in Chicago. I love green color! The weather was perfect. Warm with just a hint of cold in the air.
This is Red Eyes Coffee in North Center and it is our neighbourhood coffee shop. We only live about a two minute walk from here and we go very often. We go so often we feel like it is our second living room.
It has very reasonable prices and is not fussy or pretentous. A cozy place that is perfect on a sunny and a rainy day.
