i sure hope nobody figures out that kitsune tails save files are just a proprietary binary version of json thats fairly human readable and so easy to reverse engineer and hacks them for their own purposes 🥺
Big news: Kitsune Tail's Steam Next Fest demo is live now! Go get it at https://store.steampowered.com/app/1325260 and experience the first part of this queer furry love triangle wrapped in an SMB3 jacket
You should definitely check the options. There's a CRT shader in Kitsune Tails made by @JoshJers which isn't on by default (because people get upset by that kinda thing) but playing with it on is totally the recommended experience
And for those of you who have Steam Decks, we've verified it works on that, too! And there's a new reveal trailer, showing off some of the bosses: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRBcm5fagUU
in other news, the #KitsuneTails map editing guide is now 19 pages long >_> and yes, i am planning to release that along with some other files to make it possible to create your own maps in Tiled Map Editor on PC
all sales at this point are basically funneled straight into #KitsuneTails development so by buying my other games you're directly supporting kitsune tails too
Hi fediverse, I'm finally doing my much overdue #introduction post!
I'm a #GameDev with a decade of experience, having founded Kitsune Games in March 2013. I'm currently focused on #KitsuneTails, a queer platformer in the style of beloved classics where you play a kitsune on a journey through a land inspired by Japanese mythology. In the past I've released games such as Super Bernie World, MidBoss, and more.
I'm also working on a fantasy console called the #Mega68k, which runs on the Motorola 68000 CPU. Additionally, I create a series of videos called #CodingHistory, which explores how 3D techniques from the 90s worked. I also like programming language development and make a lot of toy languages that don't go anywhere, and am trying to liven up the #PLDev hashtag on mastodon.
anyway uhh, so #KitsuneTails wishlists are trending backwards right now because. i don't know, reasons? we've probably been too quiet on it during hell year 2022. so if you're interested in our gay furry weeb mario game, please wishlist it on steam, thank you: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1325260/Kitsune_Tails/
gonna start posting more dev gifs of kitsune tails. if the thought of a #furry mario game full of gay fox girls appeals to you, consider following the #KitsuneTails hashtag for more
anyway. things are going great and everything is definitely working as intended #GameDev#IndieDev#PixelArt
textbox overflow for #KitsuneTails. complex but very important. it's easy to fit everything into one box if you're only doing one language, but localizers for indie games are probably not gonna be testing whether their translations fit into a single textbox
btw, i just want to let you all know. that the equivalent of star power in #KitsuneTails turns you into a rainbow powered super (cute) (gay) fox. more info/wishlist at https://kitsunegames.com/kitsunetails
I wrote documentation today for the script tool we're using internally to develop #KitsuneTails. I think it's kinda clever. It allows writers to write normal looking scripts which are parsed for dialogue and converted into partial C# code files. Then coders (read: me) can finish out the partial implementation of the scenes by adding all the non-dialogue character actions and triggering sequences of dialogue with a single line of code where appropriate
And since the localization framework I created pulls localizable text out of a C# assembly it all goes automatically into a nice CSV for localizers. I even emit sorting information so that localizers will see dialogue in the order it occurs in the script
just reached core game feature completion on #KitsuneTails. all the enemies, all the Yuzu powers are done, as is the cutscene/dialogue system and the overworld
coding wise all that's left is odds and ends, polish and bugfixing, and (mini)bosses
in #KitsuneTails you end levels by walking through a torii... OR you can leap over it! if you do you'll get a shower of coins from Inari, but if you bonk against the side you'll have to do the walk of shame 😔 but at least you get a single pity coin
