🐧 I wrote a new blog entry listing all the changes I made to turn the Lenovo Yoga 370 into my mobile GNU/Linux digital painting device. It's long because it contains detailed instructions for beginners. I hope it is helpful.
If you are a journalist, blogger, YouTuber, or someone you know who is and you are interested in writing an article about the next #kde Plasma 6 release, let me know. We finished working on the release announcement with all the juicy information, and I'll happily share a secret link with you and answer any of your questions.
Here is my new GNU/Linux distribution guide about Debian KDE 12, the right GNU/Linux distribution for professional digital painting in 2024! Also about three major problems with GNU/Linux distros that will drive away all professional artists, IMO, and how I got kicked out of the Fedora KDE ecosystem with F40, which imposed Plasma6 and Wayland. I hope it helps other artists here!
After being kneecapped by a #patents troll years ago, #Mozilla Location Services, the only somewhat trusted (non-Google/Apple) "Wi-Fi positioning system" (geolocation based on triangulating collected #WiFi SSIDs), is now shutting down: https://github.com/mozilla/ichnaea/issues/2065
MLS was how #GeoClue could get a meters-accurate location without a #GPS receiver / sky line-of-sight.
It was used by many #GNOME / #KDE apps to get instantaneous neighborhood-level location (for maps, local weather…) on #Linux laptops.
I keep forgetting this, but on many #kde applications you can type ctrl-alt-i and have a krunner type interface but for the tools inside the program you are in.
To make it more interesting we're setting a deadline! We will be launching the new banners on April 20th, so for the possibility to be featured during the first week, update your apps today :)
Steam will soon use the desktop portal file picker.
In practice, it means Steam will use your native desktop method for selecting and saving files, resulting in better user experience and desktop integration.
This is one of many things Flatpak and GNOME pioneered that improves the Linux desktop for everyone.
@matt presents his proposal and planned work for "A new accessibility architecture for modern free desktops"
Exciting!
> Over the next year we will be experimenting with this new approach in a prototype, collect feedback from various stakeholders across the ecosystem, and hopefully build a new, stronger foundation for state-of-the-art accessibility in the free desktop world
Developers of apps on Flathub, some questions for you!
First, what's your app? Why did you choose Flathub to distribute your app? Do you distribute on other stores/distribution methods, or just Flathub—and why? What's something you like about Flathub? What's something that could be better?
I finally budged and used pmbootstrap to make my own customization of @postmarketOS . The experience was not so smooth as the documentation was not specific enough and scattered, but I finally did it 🎉 with PmOS edge channel (rolling release) and #KDE#Plasma6 .
I should give props to both @postmarketOS and @kde mobile folks for such gorgeous view and clean experience. It is astonishingly beautiful, and many Plasma5 issues are fully solved!
"KDE advises extreme caution after theme wipes Linux user's files"
"It executes rm -rf on your behalf [and] deletes all personal data immediately. No questions asked. I canceled this when it asked for my root password, but it was too late for my personal data. All drives mounted under my user were gone, down to 0 bytes. [G]ames, configurations, browser data, [and the] home folder [are] all gone."
