I'm calling it quits on my Halloween Countdown as I've not made enough new horror art for it this year, and cos of nerve pain, I'm trying to minimise time on my computer and clay desk atm. Urgh. Maybe next year! 😬
Anyways, here's a throwback to a few of my horror/dark genre movie posters 🖤
So I've finally joined Mastodon after being hassled by someone who will remain unnamed. Joined here to get away from the toxicity of other social media platforms. I'm mostly here to discuss music. I love all forms but particularly #heavymetal#shoegaze#krautrock#progrock#jazz#hiphop#hardcore. All forms of #metal really & I love #horrormovies
In today's wild movie news, Maggie Gyllenhaal is directing a remake of the 1935 classic Bride of Frankenstein, apparently? 🤯
It'll star Penelope Cruz as the bride, Christian Bale as Frankenstein and Peter Sarsgaard playing a detective? Looks like they're starting production on it this year. That's gonna be a must-see for me 😂
From Michael Chaves, director of the worst entry in the ConjurVerse (The Curse of La Llorona).
Thanks to The Nun II he’s now the director of the worst and second worst entry in the ConjurVerse. Yay?
The #movie has no idea what to do with its titular character as Valak is shoehorned into the same repetitive scare just to wake the audience up from really dark and droning dialogue scenes.
If you want actual frights that don’t feel like an afterthought, this Nun has next to none.
It's Thursday and as it's #InternationalWomensDay tomorrow, here's a throwback to my interpretations of some truly awesome women from the horror genre 🖤
If you love horror movies please give my daughter's TeenHorrorCast a listen. She's so right that she, as a girl, had a really different take (and the right take I think) on this film than I did at first, and she changed the way I thought about it completely.
Hey, does anyone know of any good books on Hammer Studios, particularly their gothic horror movies? I’m looking for in-depth material on the studio, the films, the actors… need not be comprehensive, but I’m not interested in simply a bunch of film synopses. Other than the autobiographies of Cushing and Lee I’m not really finding anything available that looks good. #horror#Books#horrormovies#Hammerhorror#bookstodon#HorrorFam#HorrorBooks#Dracula#Frankenstein#Gothic#gothichorror
Hmmm ... it's Wednesday the 13th, wasn't there a movie about Wednesday the 13th with Freddy Scissor fingers or something like that. I'm just kidding, I'm purposely messing up the titles and characters. I'm a fan of horror movies, though I don't like the movies that feed off of gore. Good ghost stories, vampires, exorcist, or an occasional zombie is okay. There are hundreds of horror movies available for streaming, but most aren't even 'B" movies.
“You know why horror-movie characters always get killed? Because they've never seen horror movies. They don't know how it works. Right? But we do. So, no one go into the basement alone. No one go screaming off into the woods alone. No one has any sex.” - Carrie Vaughn, Kitty's House of Horrors
Need a classic, ‘b’ horror film or two for Halloween, or just movie night? Love vampire films? How about 31 #Vampire titles from the past, and countless other horror genres, all on one site? Uh-huh. I know, why didn’t anyone tell you about sinistercinema.com before? It’s only the world’s largest catalogue of campy, b-films in all genres, including westerns, real crime, you name it. But their horror collection is massive and unmatched on the Net. Movie night will never be the same. My buddy Greg, who founded and runs the site, can chat with you, in detail, about all the many titles he offers. #halloween#Halloween2023#HorrorMovies#MovieNight#ClassicHorror#ClassicHorrorMovies#VampireMovies#FlimClassics#ClassicHollywood#FrightNight#SinisterCinema
The ghoul speaking to the rich assholes near the end says "Our projections show that by the year 2025, not only America but the entire planet will be under the protection and dominion of this 'power alliance'. The gains have been substantial both for ourselves, and for you-- the human power elite."
A while back I started a "Furry Horror" series, featuring horror movie FURSUITS. (Not costumes intended as a creature effects, but a character who is contextually wearing a fursuit in the film.)
"Pooka" is a movie about a struggling actor who takes a mascot gig and slowly loses touch with reality.
Really cool Fango piece on the differences between The Thing film and the book it was based on. Some wild differences, and some good history on the movie. This was a great read.
