Maybe you use Solarized (colorscheme), maybe you used my Kinkless GTD sytem (which became OmniFocus), or maybe you followed my D&D clubs at a Seattle girls' middle school.

Really excited to find out this week if I just give up on the iPad ever being useful or not

Pretty sure the best "just the basics, doesn't distract" smart phone replacement I've used is my Apple Watch Ultra 2. I get phone calls & can do the basics. No hyper gamified apps clamoring for attention, and my family can reach me on chat or calls. I leave my phone behind regularly now.

Watching Abbot Elementary on Prime it's averaging something like 2 minutes of show between Prime ad inserts.

Then after the insert the show audio is muted (on the Prime stream itself, we aren't muting the ads) for 5 seconds.

Out of all the streaming services we use, sucks the most.

One of the first 5 Choose Your Own Adventure books from the 80's, The Mystery of Chimney Rock really spooked me as a kid in the absolute best way.

I still think about it as a sort of "horror benchmark" for the right kind of scary vibe.

@ramsey Having grown up as a tween boy in rural Wisconsin with fall leaves and creepy carnivals that came to town every year, that book has always been near and dear.

Ok my guy, let’s set aside the fact that you haven’t read any philosophy that hasn’t been posted to hackernews. I can give a solid example of an idea that has “a long shelf life”: my decision to cancel my Spotify subscription the moment you paid joe rogan 100 million dollars.

That idea? Timeless.

Yo fellow #Seattle #library nerds: given that SPL is down due to ransomware, remember: you also live in King County which has an excellent library system and online services: https://kcls.org

I love the intro sequence to Murder She Wrote. She's fishing, writing, biking, waving at people, gardening, snooping in the dark with a flashlight... I think to myself: Yes, Jessica Fletcher is the very essence of a self actualized woman.

@cheribaker I love that intro! Have been rewatching.

All AI voices should just be HAL 9000 so we start from a position of adversarial hostility and always carry the pod bay door key with us.

YEARS back before Evernote was stripped for parts I used to use my ScanSnap to dump scans directly into it.

I missed that and built a free little script to do the same in

I loved iRobot as a kid but the idea that a robot wouldn't be programmed by code but would instead be negotiated with through natural language and "robot psychology" seemed like 1950s scifi missing the mark to my 1980s computer nerd sensibilities.

Machines hallucinating? Daydreaming? inconceivable

My wife and I both play Quartiles (one of the word puzzles in Apple News)

Me, seeing my wife score 103 on Quartiles: "Nice... but I got 107"

My wife, 5 minutes later: "112"

Me, 20 minutes later, sweating: "ha! 113"

My wife, 2 minutes later: "117"

Me, crying softly, 40 minutes later: "117, let's call it a tie"

Disney could throw money at management consulting firms all day and not get a post mortem this comprehensive and insightful. It's like a top notch HBR case study with extra plush toys.

@ethanschoonover I have a link to one of your Tweets where you recommended a book series on 'rich urban world building', but the Tweet is gone and I haven't written down the actual book names anywhere

Do you have any recollection what that might've been?

@ctietze I see someone else followed up with an archived link but fwiw it is indeed Finch by VanderMeer.

Send Later should be a built in option for every app that can send or post. Texting. Social media. All the things.

Can’t believe out of all the modern apps it’s just humble Mail that has this built in.

If true will be exactly what I've wanted out of messages for ages (well since March)
