Hey, does anyone know of any good books on Hammer Studios, particularly their gothic horror movies? I’m looking for in-depth material on the studio, the films, the actors… need not be comprehensive, but I’m not interested in simply a bunch of film synopses. Other than the autobiographies of Cushing and Lee I’m not really finding anything available that looks good.

@StillIRise1963 @Danetteb I know from personal experience—they won’t hire enough pharmacists until they are absolutely forced to, and that day of reckoning hasn’t come yet, thanks to the people who bust their asses. Instead, they are trying to sell new hires on lies (a “signing bonus” that they won’t pay out until you’ve been there for at least two years; bait and switch tactics for working hours and locations, etc.) bc they don’t want to pay salaries + insurance.

Having trouble sleeping, so I decided to watch an episode of Masters of Horror and settled on Dario Argento’s Jenifer. This is such a deeply uncomfortable watch, especially with all the incredibly bad decisions that Steven Weber’s character makes! 🤣

It was DeSantis who refused to meet Biden to tour areas damaged by Idalia. Yet the NYT reported it this way (first image) then had it up all night and morning before finallly correcting it to a less misleading headline (second image). Wording matters! Get it together, NYT...

@LadyMarth01 Watching it in tandem with the Carpenter film makes the weaknesses very evident. It has almost none of the ‘82 version’s charms. Little tension and the effects are, of course, total ass. It’s not a good movie, but I still enjoy it, because it’s right in my wheelhouse. I often say that I’m not trying to be very critical—I just rate things based on how well I enjoy them. Most movies I can find something to enjoy, so my ratings tend to skew a lot higher than most people’s.

@SchlocklusterVideo Have you seen them? I don’t want to give anything away, but there is a moment in Gozu where the 4th wall breaks and it’s just the creepiest thing I think I’ve ever seen in a film. Meanwhile, Izo is just nuts… the story of an undead samurai being pulled from one dimension to another, murdering anyone and everyone he comes across, until he actualizes cosmic power and kills the gods themselves. 🔥

A question for the #HorrorFam #horrorcommunity #mutantfam and #vinegarsyndrome fans out there—do you think the subscription fee is worth the price? Seems like right now you get about 20 releases for the remainder of this year and access to -50% off everything on the site for the remainder of the calendar year for $525–am I understanding that correctly?

(I actually can’t even afford it right now, but I’m considering trying to save up enough to do it next year.)

@thudfactor You’re making a very logical argument. My problem is that I seem to have a hoarding mentality when it comes to movies. 😂

Honestly, with so many releases coming out all the time across so many different companies, it’s probably not smart for me to tie up so much cash into just one of them. Thing is, I really love Vin Syn as a company—their way of doing business, their customer service, their website—but I probably need to spread my limited money around (or win the lottery!)
