So, in Australia, there's no easy way to opt out of 's new move of training its on all your words and images, a policy which takes effect from 26th June.

Or is there?

I asked Meta AI's chat bot how to do this, and here's how the conversation went:

> Tell me how to opt out of my data being used to train AI

META AI RESPONSE:

To opt out of your data being used to train AI, you can submit a request through the Meta Privacy Center. Here's how:

  1. Go to (link unavailable)
  2. Click on "Settings" (icon) in the top right corner
  3. Click on "Meta's use of AI and machine learning"
  4. Scroll down to "Control how your data is used to improve Meta's products and services"
  5. Select "Submit a request" under "Use of data for AI and machine learning"
  6. Fill out the form with your name, email address, and a brief description of your request (e.g., "Opt out of AI training data usage")
  7. Submit the form

Alternatively, you can also send a request via email to mailto:privacy@meta.com with the subject "Opt out of AI training data usage" and include your name and email address.

Please note that you may need to verify your identity to process the request. Meta will review your request and respond to your email address with a decision.

Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns!

> How long does it take Meta to review my request and to respond?

META AI RESPONSE:

Meta aims to review and respond to privacy requests, including opt-out requests for AI training data usage, within a reasonable time frame, typically:

  • 30 days from the date of receipt for requests made through the Privacy Center
  • 30 days from the date of verification (if required) for requests made via email

Please note that the review process may take longer if:

  • The request is complex or requires additional information
  • Meta needs to verify your identity or confirm your request
  • There are technical issues or high volumes of requests

If you have submitted a request, you can expect an email response from Meta once your request has been reviewed and processed. If you have any concerns or questions, feel free to ask!

I have sent the email to privacy@meta.com with the appropriate subject line, requesting to be opted out of training.

I'll let y'all know how the request goes.

I mean, if their own tells you how to opt out, it must be true, right?!

Amazon Prime Video preroll/midroll ads are so bad that I won’t watch Prime Video anymore.

I’ve had Prime longer than Prime Video has existed but I’ve paused it from renewing now.

The real bummer of this particular kind of is the exclusivity deals. If Amazon didn’t buy up content licensing and then put awful ads in front of it, maybe another platform that is slightly less bad could have a show or movie I want to watch.

This stage of technofeudalism is exhausting.

Watched the premier episode of and not only ran ads before the show but interrupted the show 3-4 times to play unskippable ads. 😡

Ads before were bad enough, but this is absolutely jarring & bullshit for a service I pay for.

Can't even seem to find any info about an ad-free tier for Canadian subscribers.

Really makes the "oh, it's streaming on Prime" discovery into a disappointment than good news.

Every time I complain about people making and presenting their content in terrible ways just to get better traffic, I get some reply sticking up for them:

“Look, if they don’t write for machines, nobody will see their work!”

If their work is terrible because you wrote it for a machine, nobody needs to see their work.

I tried checking an old tumblr from 2016 and it seems arrived there too. Can’t see the posts on the web, must download the app to see more than 3 , app forces registration (creation of a tumblr), forces choosing preferred tag, forces following 3 blogs, then in the app instead of a time-based list you have a random choice of “similar posts”.

Ok tumblr was sort of already dead but it got murdered again in its grave :-/

35,000 independent UK retailers headed by the British Retail Association have launched the biggest ever retail class action with a £1bn claim for damages against Amazon, which they allege has been pushing them out of its online marketplace.

The claim asserts that between October 2015 & the present day, Amazon used non-public data belonging to the retailers to inform the launch of its own rival products.

Since we all have to listen to the constant bitching about AI and the enshittificaton of search engines, I don't want to see one more person being castigated for asking a question on social media that could have been answered with a cursory search.

That was shitty, asshole behavior to begin with and now it can't even be justified by being technically correct.

BREAKING NEWS:
Space debris from SpaceX Dragon capsule crashed on a hiking trail in North Carolina mountains.

I guess this is to be expected.

I guess we're all OK with this now.

Until a Starlink satellite deorbits into a Senator's house or SpaceX launch debris falls into Mar-a-Lago, NYC, or Washington, DC, Americans won't care or do anything about this.

Sure, we won't be able to launch anything anymore, it'll be raining shit for a while, and space will become unusable, but Elon will have made his government-subsidized billions, and people will have "cheap" internet for as long as it lasts.

I stopped using facebook more than a year ago, and this year I have been deleting my posts in a daily exercise of excising my memories from that ghastly platform.

Today, out of curiosity, I had a quick count: my feed was 90% "for you", "follow", "join", and 10% posts from people in my circle of friends.

I don't know if my friends don't post anymore, or if the algorithm prefers not to display their posts.

The result is the same: #facebook is utter shit.

What the hell, where does the sudden on come from? There even are two additional "sponsored" entries on the bottom of the page, barely more results than ads. Doesn't get caught by µBlock Origin or another addon either.

Time to move to a better search provider. Probably a self-hosted one.
