Steve Oster recollected that a man called the show and complained, "You're ruining my kids by making them watch two women kiss like that." It was a production assistant who took the call. After hearing the man's complaint, the PA asked if the man would've been okay with his kids seeing one woman shoot the other. When the man said he would be okay with that, the PA said, "You should reconsider who's messing up your kids."
Beautiful. Common phrases in narrative responses to the question "What do you like best about #StarTrek?" from my survey data. Especially tickled that "gay space communism" made it onto the top 20 list.
(common words/stopwords such as "in", "the", "of" etc have been removed)
Hey folks, have you taken my #StarTrek survey yet? I'm planning to close it to responses in January, so there's only a few weeks left to take it and share it.
As I look at the world around me, I keep asking myself, “How fucked do we have to be before we start turning things around?”
Then I think about #StarTrek. It’s often thought of as a utopian setting, more or less, which is true. But us #Trekkies, who are steeped in the lore, know that there’s a fair bit of dystopia in the Trek timeline. And that dystopia hits around… right now, actually.
And if you watched a particular two-parter in #DS9, well… yeaaaaaaaah.
Happy 31st Anniversary to Star Trek Deep Space Nine, which first aired #OTD 3rd January, 1993. Debuting in the shadow of STTNG, DS9 soon proved its worth. It had a superb cast, powerful storylines and arguably one of the richest narratives of all. #DeepSpaceNine#DS9#StarTrek

Hey fellow #DS9 nerds. Did you wish you had a raktajino mug? The company DS9's props department bought the mugs from just released then again. They've made some redesigns a little bit, but it's still pretty close to the original design.
One of my favourite fun facts from Star Trek Deep Space Nine is that Morn, the guy that always sits in Quark's bar, was named after Norm from Cheers. 😁
Another fun fact about Morn is that the prosthetic piece that makes up the head does allow the actor to speak, but the character was never given a spoken line in the entire seven seasons of the show. 1/2
Some fun preliminary results from my #StarTrek survey. Overall respondents are pretty queer, definitely don't like Elon Musk, may slightly prefer cats to dogs, and a significant number seem to only like old Trek.
Have you taken the survey yet? I'm trying to get responses from a diverse audience, including those who don't really like Star Trek. Please take the survey and share it!
They did Dukat dirty by turning him into a moustache-twirling literal devil instead of pursuing the far more interesting idea that Dukat really and truly believed he was doing the right thing by Cardassia and Bajorans. He obviously wasn't, but his claim that he was "humane as possible" and protecting his own culture and acting out of necessity is far more intriguing than becoming just pure evil incarnate.
