Why do I feel like we're making the same mistakes with bird flu that we did with covid?

Dismissing this case with "oh he had chronic conditions" is extremely dangerous. Not to mention the fact that there's a lot of people who have multiple underlying health conditions.

It’s inherently infuriating about having an unmasked healthcare worker ask you if you’ve experienced COVID symptoms while checking you in for an appointment.

Well, for your sake I fucking hope not! Why even ask me?

What if I say “yes”? How will my experience change? Are you gonna send me home? Suddenly put on a mask?

What if I DO have COVID and say “no”? Sucks for you, I guess, because my COVID is flying over to you right now.

or don’t ask.

3M V-flex 9105 #N95 masks 98% effective at stopping respiration of #covid aerosols into the surrounding air, this study finds.

This translates to: people sick with COVID wearing these masks means lower transmission.

They did not study the risk of transmission of the virus to a non-infected person wearing a mask in said airspace -- that is, if wearing one of these protects the wearer FROM the virus.

But still. Could be helpful in health and long term care. #MaskUp

It occurred to me today that even though over 1 million Americans have died from Covid, we have no national memorial or national day day of mourning and how the powers that be have decided to memory hole the whole thing and how wrong this is.

😷#Covid isn't over, & its threat is⬆️due to few ppl masking, testing, viruses staying longer in the air now with⬆️CO2 levels...

A new discovery about carbon dioxide is challenging decades-old ventilation doctrine.

“By increasing the CO2 in the air, we’re getting rid of a natural means by which viruses become inactivated,” said A Haddrell -environmental chemist at the Univ. of Bristol Aerosol Research Ctr, who led the new work. “It’s fascinating, but it’s -horrifying.”

"In his first public testimony since stepping down from [U.S.] government office at the end of 2022, Dr. Anthony Fauci on Monday fended off a variety of attacks from Republican politicians at a fiery hearing called to discuss lessons learned during the pandemic."

NBC News reports: "Fauci has emerged as one of the people most vilified by supporters of former President Donald Trump, with many blaming him for the pandemic based on a wide array of false or misleading claims. Calls to prosecute Fauci for unspecified crimes have become common on the right."

🔴 These findings demonstrate that transfer of IgG from Long COVID patients to mice replicates disease symptoms, underscoring IgG's causative role in Long COVID pathogenesis.

I am far more terrified about the pending virus that is spreading than at the latter’s worst.

👉🏾 U.S. to make millions of bird flu vaccine doses this summer, as cases grow https://www.cbsnews.com/news/bird-flu-vaccine-doses-this-summer-cases/

COVID’s fatality rate was between 1%-3% (which is usually high for a virus).

I have read reports about H5N1 having close to 60% fatality rate. I need to stock up on masks again.

The results also suggest that N95 masks, also known as #respirators, should be the standard of care in nursing homes and health care settings when respiratory viral infections are prevalent and transmission risk is elevated”

As we already have wildfires going in CA and are set to have scorcher weather Tues - Thu, let me remind folks that not only are N95 masks good for keeping from getting/giving COVID, but also good for filtering smoke from wildfires.

Good to have a supply on hand and to be wearing one.
