Trying to pay attention to a dubbed movie, the #Monsterdon posts, and my family group text (who are currently debating the ethical & practical use of #AI in #ASL#interpreting 🤯).
I thought this ASL feature in Clipchamp did voice-to-text-to-3D ASL interpretation, but it’s just pre-rendered common phrases. Would be an accessibility win if it did what I assumed.
parents are from hong kong so i know canto. also learned mandarin in school and am trying my hands at #asl | Also I got duolingo on impulse and added japanese hebrew and korean
Molly Glass, an ASL consultant who is also deaf, wrote a really insightful post on LinkedIn about her lived experience. It was moving and edifying, and I encourage y’all to give it a read. Specifically if you want to amplify your empathy for the deaf community.
Prior to the birth of ASL, sign language had been used by various communities in the United States. In the United States, as elsewhere in the world, hearing families with deaf children have historically employed ad hoc home sign, which often reaches much higher levels of sophistication than gestures used by hearing people in spoken conversation. As early as 1541 at first contact by Francisco Vásquez de Coronado, there were reports that the Indigenous peoples of the Great Plains widely spoke a sign language to communicate across vast national and linguistic lines.
La suite, c'est l'oeuvre de Laurent Clerc et Thomas Gallaudet, en America Sign Language (soustitrée). Une belle histoire magique :D invidious.fdn.fr/watch?v=aJ9fgKkqT-g
British Sign Language #BSL has been updated to include 200 new environmental science terms like "greenhouse gas," "carbon footprint," and "photosynthesis" so signers don't need to spell out everything when talking about #ClimateChange. You paying attention #ASL? #accessibility
Hello and bonjour! I’m a #gay#Deaf#Jewish#bear — and more — living with my husband and dog in #Sonoma, California (USA). I’m an #accessibility professional by day having worked in engineering pretty much my whole career. When I’m not traveling locally and internationally, you can find me with friends, at the #gym doing weights or #swimming, or soaking up culture in some way. I’m fluent in #English, #French and #ASL (American Sign Language).
Well, this is something I did not expect to see this morning.
The Japanese #GirlGroup#XG dropped a video of their new song Girl Gang (stylized GRL GVNG) with the members performing the lyrics on screen in American Sign Language.
Tip: learn ASL from the Deaf community. There are a lot of hearing people making youtube videos “to share what they know” but they are often signing incorrectly. Don’t be one of them. Support the Deaf community. Have fun!
I will do my best to post accessibly, including image descriptions and avoiding flashing lights.
I will CW for things like violence, nudity, and hate speech.
I will not CW for cursing, food, politics, or eye contact. If you need CWs for these things, it's okay not to follow me! I just do all of these things a lot, so you wouldn't see most of my posts anyway.
If I see you, and you make interesting original posts, I might follow you. If you post a lot of sexually graphic content, I probably won't. It's not personal.
