Honestly, I’ve been really enjoying making these, probably the most I’ve been excited to model something for months. So I exchanged some sleep for a faster turnaround :) Previous post here...
People magazine referred to Harlow’s portion of #3D… “who delivers two saucy verses that tout how charismatic he is with women,” and JK said Harlow added a ‘sensual vibe.’ Apparently I’ve lost complete command of the English language and words no longer mean what they mean. 🤬https://people.com/bts-jungkook-jack-harlow-release-3d-collaboration-music-video-8302739
Started a new modeling experiment… I want to try and create a semi-realistic character in my favorite 3D editor: #MagicaCSG , by @ephtracy .
It's going to be a bit of a challenge, because every detail needs to be added, subtracted or intersected using primitive shapes, as opposed to 3D sculpting, where you can freely brush details in a clay-like manner.
So if this doesn't get follow-up posts, I will have failed miserably. 😅
#art ahead of #inktober - which I'm going to try & do - I thought I'd do one #3D pic, so I picked this Weverse photo. Once one starts, the variety of shades of blue & white become more and more apparent, it's actually quite a complex image.
I read that in an interview JK said he was attracted to blue & white now.
Anyway, my pic is drying now... (1/2)
Hi everyone, I’m back with another kbin icon pack. This time it’s flags for 18 EU countries (the non-fancy ones) + an EU flag. So 38 icons in total. All icons come in two styles: semi-transparent/glassy and opaque metallic. I also made a simple instance logo generator....
Going to try creating a sci-fi gun in MagicaCSG. I'm not very experienced in detailed hard-surface modeling, so it's going to be an interesting challenge.
Disclaimer: I hate real-life guns. My sci-fi gun will emit a peace beam. ✌️😉
So I 3D modelled two icons (well, illustrations rather) for the communities that I created on kbin: Industrial Design and Jewelry Design. These icons are meant to reimagine kbin’s logo in a way that's relevant to each community....
OK, I have one of these spare... Of the 5 PCBs, one was faulty, and three have gone to good homes (including one on my desk). They have 372 WS2812B RGB LEDs and dial a random address on power up (also control via MQTT and HTTP). USB powered, needs 0.7A.
How do I find a worthy home for this one spare unit? I should probably find some charity thing to donate it to, but it may be just too geeky.
Of course, there is no ruling out making more at some point.
I think what makes the learning curve of #3D modeling & animation software like #blender seem steep even for many seasoned #vfx designers is similar to what makes #emacs appear to have a steep learning curve even for many seasoned programmers: it's more about "learning to drive" than about learning the program's pleathora of features.
once you learn to drive in either emacs or blender, which essentially boils down to learning keyboard macros and how they makeup a tactile vocabulary with similar variations extending across a large number of "modes", you'll never again wind up spending half an hour figuring out how to edit your file again, those little things that initially steer people away from plunging in and reaping the benefits. but really that passes within about a month, and like being able to drive a bike or a car, the mobility offered by "putting in the work" lasts a lifetime.
Started a new #MagicaCSG scene. I love that 3D editor so much. The SDF (Signed Distance Fields) approach gives you total modeling freedom, without worrying about polygon structures, edge flow, etc..
The screenshot shows part of a snake-like alien, existing of two curves. The mouth curve is Boolean-subtracted in real-time, including auto-filleted edges everywhere.
OC I’m back with several more community icons: check out Artemis (future kbin app), Urban Details, 3D Modeling and some other stuff

OC Kbinicons Part 3 is here: 19 EU flags in two different styles each + a psd file to generate small instance logos for separate kbin instances

OC I designed and rendered a couple of icons for the magazines I started, and I’d like to share some behind the scenes images with y'all. I’m also open to doing a few more of these in future.
