Very_Bad_Janet, in Hollywood Studios’ WGA Strike Endgame Is To Let Writers Go Broke Before Resuming Talks In Fall

Saying the quiet part out loud:

“The endgame is to allow things to drag on until union members start losing their apartments and losing their houses,” a studio executive told Deadline.

LeafyPasserine,
LeafyPasserine avatar

These studio execs are absolutely disgusting.

Very_Bad_Janet,

The execs literally sound like the villains in their movies and shows.

TawdryPorker,

Back in the day they used to use more direct methods and I bet they still would today if they could get away with it.

livus, in What Killed The Movie Trailer?
livus avatar

@proprioception omg yes! I really don't like how Hollywood trailers give away so much plot these days.

koberulz,

“These days”? They always have.

livus,
livus avatar

I don't think it really started until the 1980s? OPs video seems to suggest that.

Take a look at this old trailer, there's no way you would guess the plot from that.

mihnt,

I’ve been refusing to watch trailers for a few years now. They always drop “surprise” characters in the trailers (Which, y’know, kinda ruins the whole fun of it.), spoil the whole idea of the movie, ruin some of the jokes for engagement, etc…

The only time I will even consider watching one is when I know fuck all about a film or what’s happening in it.

livus,
livus avatar

That's a good idea.

I'm often looking for something to watch though, so I do watch trailers sometimes. If it's something I want to see I try to only watch like, the first 1/3 of the trailer.

FfaerieOxide, in Old film you should watch: Pandora's Box (dir. G.W Pabst, 1929 - TRAILER

Pabst and Louise Brooks worked together on another film based on Tagebuch einer Verlorenen released 226 days after this one if you're interested.

livus,

I've only seen that once, a long time ago. I remember it as really depressing; is that accurate?

You're have to ask someone (besides yourself) who's seen the film. I haven't even read the book in english.

Since it's about a woman who witnesses a suicide, is raped, gets forced into a life of sexwork, and eventual husband offs himself, yeah "depressing" sounds about right. 🤔

Omg.

As someone with a very visual imagination, I'm kind of hating you right now!

I am so freakin into this, and haven't been into any Highlander shit since H2

STUPIDVIPGUY, in Hollywood actor Danny Trejo will play Magellan in film ‘1521’

naming a movie/tv show after a year is a lazy convention

You ain't wrong.

Edit: Exception being if it has a subtitle, of course. I.E. 2001: A Space Odyssey.

AFKBRBChocolate, in L.A. Story (1991) Steve Martin at his finest

That really is a great movie. So silly, but also some jokes to think about. It’s also very quotable.

GCanuck, in Sir Anthony Hopkins to play man who saved 669 children (in new film).

I love that clip, brings a tear to my eyes every time.

But I just don’t see how this story will translate to an enjoyable screen experience. Still, heap more honour on that man. He deserves all of it.

roofuskit, in HBO Max was renamed Max, and Warner Bros. Discovery lost subscribers
roofuskit avatar

I am one of those subscribers. I did not leave because of the name. I left because Zaslav took an axe to a lot of the content my family used the service for. And then even if that hadn't been enough to drive us off, they jacked up the prices so they could include a bunch of horseshit reality TV.

Finkler, in Oppenheimer or Barbie first?
@Finkler@lemmy.world avatar

Oppenheimer then go to pub ;)

EmperorGormet, in Oppenheimer or Barbie first?

I think if you watch Barbie first it will take away for Oppenheimer. Longer movie would always go first IMO but especially in this case

Pons_Aelius, in Why the creators of 'Jaws' regretted making sharks the monsters

While I respect their feelings of regret. Shark fin soup has done orders of magnitude more damage than Jaws is responsible for.

Zo0, in How difficult could it be for actors and writers to make their own studios?

I don’t think the issue is the economy of it, rather politics. The current studios have so much power that they will need to fight them at every step. From marketing, distributions to IPs and licenses. If you think they can afford this battle, you gotta remember who was paying them in the first place

PositiveNoise,
PositiveNoise avatar

Yeah, writers and actors who did that would probably have a lot of difficulty getting gigs in mainstream Hollywood studios. Any actor who is already rich and doesn't care about extreme fame could easily do it, but I think a lot of rich famous actors are kind of addicted to gigantic paychecks and fame...

elouboub,
elouboub avatar

How big are these two guilds? Their combined power should be able to tell the money-guzzling old-guard to shove it. And them not getting gigs with the old-guard would be the point, no? Why create a new studio to then work with the old one?

The entire cast of Oppenheimer walked away from their premier and striked.

JDPoZ, in best horror movie you've ever seen?

@clitoris best of all time? Probably #Alien or #theExorcist. My personal favorite “classic?” #thething1982
My favorite “modern” horror film? Probably #ItFollows. The most critically acclaimed modern horror film? #Hereditary
