From yesterday: Environmental advocates called it “a land grab of Boca Chica State Park land for a private space corporation that is clearly not in the public interest.” So why is the state parks agency seemingly so eager to work with #SpaceX? https://www.texasobserver.org/spacex-tpwd-park-land-musk/
#Hospice is amazing, at least in my experiences with various ones around the US. They make an awful time just a little less awful, and I’m very thankful. About to lose a person in my life who has had Alzheimer’s for quite a long time, and I’m glad to see her go before it progresses more. She led a pretty normal, self-sufficient life until about 9 months ago, which is pretty good for anyone in their 90’s, and still remembered my name until probably two weeks ago, so lots to be thankful for.
Any "what's wrong with Tesla" business story that doesn't mention that the CEO has taken a hard right into racist, fascist, eugenicist, conspiracy nonsense, creating a PR catastrophe that has turned everyone with a brain off the brand, while he tortures his vanity social media site like a child pulling the wings off a fly because he can, is just whitewashing for the sociopath.
It's not China. It's not "the market." It's all Elon.
once an alaska economist on twitter unfollowed me because I disagreed that “construct more houses” was the only way out of this housing crisis and suggested we may have some regulatory leverage as well
Back on my bullshit (criticizing my employer in the LA Times, as if I don't have other things to do with my time)
"administrators have already embarrassed #USC considerably and they owe Asna and the entire campus community an apology.
Many including myself are hoping to hear a fuller explication (including details about security concerns) and a path forward from our President, Carol Folt”
@inquiline oh, that’s interesting. I didn’t know she walked into a lot of problems at USC, although I do now seem to remember the med school dean fiasco.
@inquiline wow, that’s pretty horrible. I remember reading some of these stories, but my brain didn’t connect them all to USC, maybe because it seems so implausible! Hard for universities to escape these doom loops, like Michigan State, or University of Arizona (which has also had serious problems with its med school).
@schwa that’s the killer app for the Vision Pro, a game where you are a dog running on the beach with other dogs. If you are a good dog you unlock other famous dog beaches:)
And no one yet, all these years later, has been able to tell me how Little Caesars produced those hot n'ready pizzas for $5 when I can't buy those ingredients anywhere for under $10.
OMG, the coach of the cubs is leading “Take me out to the ballgame,” and I’m pretty sure Harry Caray is going to come back from the dead to murder him for murdering the song. So bad. Anyhoo, here’s Will Ferrell doing Harry Caray as Carl Sagan.
More Cybertruck hilarity. I can relate to this one, as the wheel trim on our X was ripped off 4 separate times in a car wash. Piece o’ junk. #Tesla#cybertruck
@schwa as someone who watches most movies alone, this is way more attractive to me than a giant TV. Also, wearing while flying so no one talks to me, lol.
What are your favorite third places (work, home, third place), or if you WFH, your second places? Mine are coffee shops, although we don’t have a really good one here that is open past 4pm. LUX, in Phoenix, was probably my favorite one ever. Opened at 6am, closed at midnight (now 10, sadly), had a great bar and full food menu, too.
This is the kind of AI-generated garbage I mentioned yesterday. I’m looking for the software to upgrade my bike firmware, and instead I get a link to a site that seems to have written a review of this bike only 2 months ago, even though the company has been out of business for around five years now. This is one of two AI generated articles that appeared on the first page of search results.
I just submitted one of the most important proposals of my career. I hope the client likes it because I'm super excited about the opportunity.
Other than that, I'm still job hunting. I've had a series of interviews over the past month with four different companies. The future is still scary, but the number of folks who have reached out in the past few weeks has me feeling optimistic.
@ai6yr when life gives you iguanas, make iguana tacos. I grew up in Florida, and we didn’t have an iguana or a giant snake problem. Amazing how fast that shit can happen.
