Bizarre use of language in ABC TV news story about cops not marching at Mardi Gras, with reporter saying "it's only four more sleeps". This was a serious story, related to a violent double murder, not a Play School skit
@luciedigitalni you would know better than me if there’s nothing around for android. i’d be surprised if there’s nothing you can at least side-load but there’s diminishing returns with the hassle it can take to get this stuff (and keep it) working sometimes.
i just hate ads with a passion and would do just about anything to solve the problem, including getting into other folks’ business, sorry bout that
"Whether you’re the demon symbiote fastened onto the brain stem of Rupert Murdoch’s withered undead corpse, an enthusiastic human centipede like Vivek Ramaswamy, or simply one of the unknowable number of angry keyboard warriors ardently stroking their pump action yoghurt rifles, Taylor Swift does not present as a threat. She seems an opportunity."
Yesterday, I watched a miniseries about Joan Crawford and Bette Davis all day long. Then, I watched "Who's Afraid of Baby Jane" and "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte. Very fun. Reminded me of being a kid, watching many different types of movies because they were the only thing on.
Claudine Gay read many books and articles for research, and a clever person armed with a computer can find out where and how she used what she learned in her own writing. Usually she was scrupulous about attributions and footnotes, and once in a while she seems to have been careless.
@fulanigirl@StillIRise1963 I read somewhere a lot of those old places with the steam heaters were designed to have the windows open for ventilation on account of the ‘flu epidemic
#BlackMastodon#BlackTwitter@blackmastodon Hey family. I've been ragging on my friends who allow Google, Apple, and Facebook (!) to curate their news. And then they complain when I raise news stories they haven't seen. 🙄 Can you all share a very simple way they can create their own list of news sources. It has to be simple. They all have advanced degrees but are still on Facebook (!) and still use Amazon because it's "too"convenient. I need something they can do in 5 minutes or less.
@fulanigirl@blackmastodon It’s tricky, I know. It is important though (and as you say, important it be simple and approachable/low barrier).
If it were me I’d look at the platform/s and work from there. Mac/iOS as example there are a few apps from NetNewsWire (free) to something like Reeder which is paid but has a very intuitive interface and quite pleasant to use (available for both iPad/iPhone and Mac).
The real work is collating the sources but you can export to an OPML file that can be distributed you everyone with a need and you can update as needed.
@ixi One way to fight it might be to acknowledge and address the tensions bw the principles of judaism as many jews understand them and the authoritarian impulses of a neurotic colonial ethnostate.
I have never felt so antisemitic (a lover of jewish culture and thought and therefore in essence a lifelong philosemite) as I do now, as I do when forced to contend with the logical implications of Israel as a political entity.
‘western powers are unable to credibly pretend that there is some global system of rules that they uphold. They seem to simply say: there are exceptions, and that’s just the way it is…The lesson is brutal and short: human rights are not universal and international law is arbitrarily applied. I don’t know where that revelation goes, once it arrives‘
"The prognosis for our democracy is, on this score, grim. Rarely has a Labor government so willingly forfeited the dignity of its office in a bid to surpass the caudillo instincts of an opposition leader so hopelessly unserious, so reflexively illiberal, and so utterly unsuited for leadership that his contempt for norms and customs rivals that of the perfidious moral degenerate who preceded him."
@Daojoan@photos_floues@maudenificent i really dislike rand as a person and hate what she stood for but fountainhead’s a pretty good book. atlas’s a steaming pile of preposterous sadness tho
