In positive news, I am redesigning the entire on-boarding experience for the psych ward while I'm in here because there is SO much that needs addressed.

There is so much information that's only been conveyed to be verbally, nothing written down, all these surprises that keep popping up, not sure what I'm allowed to do. Oh, another blood test? Oh, Mental Health Act orders only last three days? Oh, I can't use the exercise bike without being medically cleared by a doctor? Oh, an impromptu interview with yet another psychiatrist because involuntarily admissions need a review by a second specialist within 24 hours?

And apart from my severe depressive episode I'm pretty switched on and even for me it's disconcerting!

So hopefully I can do a lot of good for both patients and staff while I'm here ❤️

I mean, when it comes to consent I feel the hospital is playing pretty fast and loose here. The only written consent I've given is for sharing information with third parties.

Which given how seriously we take consent in software design and user research for far less traumatising applications, this could probably do with a significant audit of privacy and consent.

Am I accidentally photographing that Devil's Comet?

Do I know anyone in with a backyard telescope so Ms8 can see the comet?

Geomagnetic Storm Category G3 Predicted 11 May UTC

nathanaelcbr,
@nathanaelcbr@aus.social avatar

Geomagnetic storming forecast upgraded to G4 Severe.

If a G4 results in aurora at night time for Australia you might be able to see the aurora from NSW up to Wollongong, as well as Adelaide and Perth.

Tasmania would might get a spectacular show, so plan your viewpoints now.

G3 levels of geomagnetic storming at the moment so if you live in South Africa you might see aurora.

For some reason OpenOffice now consistently crashes on me so I'm switching to LibreOffice.

nathanaelcbr,
@nathanaelcbr@aus.social avatar

Ooh I've already noticed a few things LibreOffice does nicer than OpenOffice and wish I'd switched sooner, I assumed it was inferior.

nathanaelcbr,
@nathanaelcbr@aus.social avatar

@frabcus You might be thinking of StarOffice that Sun took over, but OpenOffice is still going, now called Apache OpenOffice but still open source.

It's going to be weird seeing our last few ski resorts completely pivot away from winter sports and run solely as MTB / luge / flying fox / gondola destinations.

So looks like 3G coverage in my building is good. 4G and 5G are rubbish. But auto mode doesn't give up persisting with 4G and 5G. I wonder if I can configure Tasker to switch to 3G only when I'm at work and back to auto when I leave work ...

Pretty crazy that in 2024 you can get a key cut without photo ID, proof of identity, proof of residence, signature, or details being recorded.

@luciedigitalni It just totally seems like the sort of thing lawyers and legislators would have long implemented because liability, insurance, law enforcement etc.

We have something called "Rapture pants" in our house. Can you guess what it might be?

nathanaelcbr,
@nathanaelcbr@aus.social avatar

"Rapture pants" is what I call it when my wife decides to go pantless at home and just leaves her pants on the floor ... in the bathroom, the loungeroom, sometimes the kitchen.

I call it "Rapture pants" because it looks like she was taken up into Heaven but her pants got left behind.

@timClicks 10 million WHY you gotta process that first man! Get those points into some bins, apply some aggregate functions!

The 11.6km mountain biking and walking Pike29 Memorial Track will open on February 17. It will connect the Paparoa Track Great Walk to the Pike River Valley.

The track is the result of a partnership between DOC, Ngāti Waewae and families of the 29 men who died in the Pike River mine disaster in November 2010.
