I mean generally I just assume you folks don't rate violent imperialism and colonialism very highly in your calculations because you genuinely have no idea what we're doing out there, half a world away. I guess that's my polite fiction that gets me through the night.

But when the pictures come out, and you're still defending this shit, that forces me to realize that you're absolute fucking monsters and at that point I dunno what business we have together. None that I can see.

lawas,
@lawas@mastodon.social avatar

@AnarchoNinaWrites I honestly think the only reason they care about fascism here is because it risks subjecting white people in the U.S. to the state violence the U.S. has always exerted on brown folks in its imperial pursuits. It’s kind of telling that they still can’t put it all together.

Or maybe they can, but realize on some level that their status could impacted by the U.S. being anti-colonial. Either way, there’s no excuses to not know better at this point.

Workers are forced into wage slavery under capitalism, unable to escape the cycle of poverty.
#communism #socialism #anarchism #libertarianism

lawas,
@lawas@mastodon.social avatar

@janisf @Radical_EgoCom The problem with capitalism is not how regulated it is. The problem with capitalism is that workers are denied the fruits of their surplus labor. A business’s profits are stolen wages. From the communist perspective, it’s an unjust economic system by design.

It leads to accumulation at the top and has a long history of creating major crises as a result. This has been true for as long as capitalism has existed and only gets worse with time. It’s unstable.

lawas,
@lawas@mastodon.social avatar

@janisf @Radical_EgoCom I’m a Marxist, so I think that system does exist. It’s not just a change of economic system though, it requires a social revolution led by a class-conscious party of working people. Communism is the only system that actually addresses inequality at its root.

We drive hope by liberating people from oppression and that comes by smashing capitalism. Personally I don’t care about investors, I care about the working class.

lawas,
@lawas@mastodon.social avatar

@janisf @Radical_EgoCom I really don’t think you understand where I’m coming from lol. Investments are profits derived from other people’s labor, that’s inherently unjust just like the rest of system.

I do care about people, which is why I want to create a world free from the systems oppressing us. I also specified a social revolution, it’s something people have to be on board with.

Socialism: Scientific and Utopian is an intro to these ideas. State and Revolution is good too.

lawas,
@lawas@mastodon.social avatar

@Radical_EgoCom @janisf @TessRants This. I think the point I was trying to make that was overlooked is that we actually have to convince people to change the system. Educating the working class to prepare them for proletarian rule is a key part of Marxist thought.

We need to convince working people to abandon the system and overthrow the class that work against their self-interest. I wish people would read theory, this has all been covered by thinkers much smarter than us.

I'm getting so sick of people who don't live in the US insisting that Biden and Trump are basically the same thing.

Maybe just sit down and shut the fuck up on this one?

Is Biden a deeply flawed, and even bad candidate? Absolutely!

But Trump is a literal fascist wannabe dictator. We're voting on the difference between open and rigged elections. On women's access to healthcare. On the lives of immigrants. On whether or not LGBTQ people are full humans equally deserving of human rights. /1

lawas,
@lawas@mastodon.social avatar

@cferdinandi The reason they say that is because when it comes to a lot of peoples’ lives, it’s true. The U.S. drops bombs on people and rigs elections all over the globe regardless of who’s in office, so it doesn’t make a lick of difference to them whether the person signing off is a Democrat or a Republican.

All the bad shit that Trump might do to Americans is the same stuff that America already exports to the global south, but we only care when it’s American lives being threatened.

Ol' Trumpy out here all but begging his followers to kill Biden and liberals just keep acting like we can vote this problem out of existence.

Good luck. He'll never stop until he's made to stop.

lawas,
@lawas@mastodon.social avatar

@etherdiver They don’t seem to realize that the economic system that Biden helps prop up is the same one that allows people like Trump to gain massive amounts of wealth and thus massive amounts of influence.

Any systemic change undertaken to neuter Trump and his ghouls would ultimately hurt the Democratic Party too. Maybe they’re just hoping he has a heart attack and drops dead or something.

When I was younger I always looked forward to the day when I’d be making enough money to drive a cool modified car. I love JDM cars and driving fast.

I’m older now (and still not really making money 😅) and seeing those same cars just make me sad. I can’t really see myself just burning fossil fuels for fun anymore. I just realized there’s other, less selfish ways to go fast.

@CelloMomOnCars It’s definitely something on my radar!

I won’t be able to be totally car free where I live, so I’m thinking an old convertible Beetle or Porsche 911 with an EV swap would be a cool project that I could do myself since there’s so many drop in kits now. Keeping an eye on new electric dirt bikes/motorcycles too.

lawas,
@lawas@mastodon.social avatar

@CelloMomOnCars I think it would be doable, it’s just a matter of how much time and money you can invest. I’d also love a Golf conversion, especially an older one!

Starting a project like that is still years away for me, so for now I’m mulling over electric dirt bikes. A new U.S. company called Dust Moto has a wild looking concept that I can’t wait for. It’s exciting times for sure!

Look. I know picking up dog shit isn't particularly fun. But if you have a dog in the city, you just have to do it. Don't be a toxic individualist, be a real community member and bag that shit 💰💩

There is no excuse not to! Some people walk to work and might not be able to change their shoes. Some people have medically-needed mobility devices they would prefer to not get shit on. Please. Get your shit together. I love your dog but I hate you.

    i usually ignore people like that. like their GOP counterparts, politics is a cult for them.

    @blogdiva People like that don’t realize that their privilege is showing. The status quo suits them just fine, so anyone arguing for dramatic systemic change is a threat to their way of life.

    We’ve given the Democrats enough grace. When they had full control they could’ve made sweeping changes to improve the lives of workers, but they didn’t, because the GOP and Dems are two sides of the same capitalist coin.

    What I want cis white liberals to understand is there's a reason so many poor, trans, Black, Hispanic, Arabic, and other people are upset about politics right now, and it's not because we're "low information voters" or we just feel like being mean to your heroes. It's because yelling at someone like Trump is pointless. We hope yelling at Biden and Democrats is not.

    lawas,
    @lawas@mastodon.social avatar

    @gwynnion Yup.

    Frankly, Dems aren’t, and have never been, interested in giving us the systemic changes we really need because that would mean ending capitalism. So I understand perfectly why folks are disillusioned.

    Their privilege prevents them from understanding that we, minority groups, get hosed regardless of who wins. The wealth gap keeps growing. This shit is literally killing us.

    So yeah, please don’t “but Trump” us. We’re not stupid, we know. But that’s not the point.

    finnbar_m, to philosophy

    I'm starting to think that a lot of #atheist #leftist misunderstand #religion. I went to church today. It wasn't amazing but I did enjoy it. I think that religion, especially in the west, largely isnt about faith anymore. I enjoyed going to church because I saw people I knew, I saw people I didn't. There was music.

    It was a reason to gather.

    #leftist @leftism @atheism #anarchism

    lawas,
    @lawas@mastodon.social avatar

    @finnbar_m @leftism @atheism I think atheists just want to know if the claims a religion makes are true, because if they aren’t then we should probably build community elsewhere.

    It may just be a social activity for you, but a lot of people literally believe in a god and that affects the way they treat people. People are passing harmful laws in the U.S. and other nations right now because of their faith. It’s not just a reason to gather, it’s a worldview.

    lawas,
    @lawas@mastodon.social avatar

    @Randomgal Well that’s just not true.

    I get that some people are just using religion to justify bad stuff, but a lot are doing bad stuff because their holy book tells them to. Again, someone’s religion is often a worldview that informs everything they do.

    You don’t just get to say “well it’s not because of the religion” when a lot of holy books explicitly support the immoral acts they legislate.

    lawas,
    @lawas@mastodon.social avatar

    @Randomgal And just so you understand why you’re about to get blocked, you misrepresented what I said.

    The point wasn’t “religion bad.” I just pointed out that some people DO make bad choices because they think their holy book is handed down from god.

    If you really think the religion itself has nothing to do with that, you’re just wrong. And I don’t think you’re interested in understanding my position, so I won’t bother. ✌🏽

    Random #BikeTooter question of the day: I think I need a new helmet (the pads are all falling apart, and I have not been a huge fan of the chin strap), what are people's favorites? I'm not racing anywhere, just need a good reliable helmet for going around town. I'm pretty sure the ones we have are Target specials, LOL. I should have asked for #BikeNite. (Update: after determining I was using an unsafe, 2013-era helmet which was falling apart, ended up with a Bontrager WaveCel, which was the best rating in a mid-price at my local bike shop. They did have the Specialized Align II, which is very highly rated and only $50) #cycling #helmets

    lawas,
    @lawas@mastodon.social avatar

    @ai6yr Good choice on the WaveCel. I wouldn’t consider a helmet now without MIPS/WaveCel tech. The extra protection is well worth it to protect our most valuable organ.

    I ended up with a MET Downtown MIPS, super safe and not too pricey.

    @jeffowski Lol the lack of self-awareness in these comments is hysterical. People see “far left” and immediately conjure up images of some super authoritarian dystopia hellscape where the government takes all your shit.

    That American propaganda machine is a bitch.

    lawas,
    @lawas@mastodon.social avatar

    @danjac @jeffowski The issue isn’t even about how “left” something is. It’s the assumption that moving further left necessarily results in totalitarianism. That’s the propaganda I’m talking about.

    A lot of leftist movements now want to decentralize power and dissolve the state completely. So people who insist anything “far left” means an authoritarian regime are plainly wrong.

    And probably better to say capitalist/imperialist propaganda, it’s not just the U.S. tbh.
