I've been aware of the idea since my late teens or early twenties or so, but I've really come to appreciate in the last couple of years to what degree the information your senses tell you is subjective to the point of approaching total fiction.

flyingsaceur,
@flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange avatar

@aeva when it comes to knowledge work, it gets weirder

A doctor, lawyer, or engineer has a separate brain that contains a nonverbal, unconscious model of a complex problem domain, thanks to intellectual training which approximates the “kinematic” training of driving a car

Think about how strange mental math is and how it got in there

Confession of an Amiga enthusiast back in the day: I always liked the black and white hires mode of the Atari ST, which to me looked slicker than even the original Macintosh. And I still love that "printed page" experience of environments like Medley Interlisp.

@amoroso I remember the sight of a Macintosh II running a chess game at a computer dealership utterly transfixed me, it was the pages of Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess come to life.

The promise of a high refresh rate grayscale e-ink display is perpetually six months out. I would spend the rest of my life exiled to 4:5 at 200 dpi at 30 Hz or more, is there anyone else going in that direction?

May 2024: Microsoft poison pills Windows 11 with spyware

The beauty of this is that Microsoft doesn’t even have to sell the new windows 10 pricing, infosec will

So I spent a big chunk of my life living next door to Louisiana (Houston) and now I live next door to Quebec (Toronto) and it just this moment occurred to me to check if Quebec has beignets. Like, I'd simply assumed if I ever went liking for beignets I'd find them. So I asked a Quebecoise friend, and

Okay, so they do have them, but—

Quebec beignets have holes???

My world is (topologically speaking) rocked

    DNS gurus, am I correct in believing that PTR records are primarily used for mail sending servers and servers that never send mail do not need one?

    flyingsaceur,
    @flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange avatar

    @sysop408 On the public internet, yes, but there is a lot of usefulness in internal networks having DNS and DHCP working together to get DHCP leases with co- termed A, AAAA, and PTR records. (Windows Server, Infoblox, Your Home Router). in-addr.arpa is the rabbit hole you (don’t) want to fall down, but I Am Not An IANA Lawyer

    @sysop408 PS there is an unintended consequence: a lot of stuff does blocking reverse lookups on incoming connections so be on the lookout for weird lockups on the order of 1-60 seconds

    flyingsaceur,

    @thepoliticalcat @DeliaChristina willing to bet that this campaign (which has been pulled) was done in house and not by an agency, same as the Crush iPad campaign.

    In both cases, they bought their own hype and mistook a VC hype reel for advertising

    flyingsaceur,
    @flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange avatar

    @thepoliticalcat @DeliaChristina Exactly. And if the campaign is a flop, the agency takes the force of the blow. Doing it in house means you literally have no one to blame but yourself

    ADHD meds end of week 2 note.

    My whole sense of time is different.

    I don't come home from work, do a few amusing things then oh shit it's midnight, time to sleep. It's fit in a whole evening of visiting family, bun time, reading, catching up with folk online, and it's only 10:20pm and it feels like a normal whole weekend's already fit in. Free time used to fly by, now it's savoured fully.

    Also medicaiton still way variable and peaky, but may change Monday.
