from the infinite possibilities of the multiverse, i choose one thread and will it to be:
“No, Luke. I am your mother”
The recontextualized reboot of the full Star Wars trilogy, where in the Clone Wars, as Anakin Skywalker
became more erratic and obsessed with arcana of the Force, Amidala became more concerned for her own safety and that of her children, turning to Obi-Wan. In a fit of rage, Anakin tried to kill her, but with her latent Force abilities and those of the twins she was carrying, she killed him in self defense.
The Jedi Council, frightened by her power, abducted her children and sent Obi-Wan and Yoda on twin missions to hide the children with foster families and destroy all records
Obsessed with finding her stolen children, Amidala swore loyalty to Palpatine and set about hunting down and murdering every last Jedi to get her children back. She created the identity of Darth Vader to conceal
her true intent, strike fear, and fulfill her destiny to bring order to a galaxy ruled by men
Leonardo DaVinci would have been a horrible coworker. If you asked
him to do something he would take forever, hand in some halfassed doodle of a helicopter, and the bosses would love it. Everyone would talk about how smart the guy is. But it would take hundreds of years for anyone to get the idea to qork, and it would look completely different
One of the few things he actually finished was a simple ask: paint a lady smiling. It takes forever, everyone loves it, but you can’t even tell if she’s smiling or not
Which is, of course, a side effect of reading PKD.
A long time ago I was able to mitigate some pretty bad insomnia by reading an early PKD novel every night. I would eat an early dinner, read until the end, and fall assleep. I lived alone at the time
I was even doing them in order of publication for a while, and that is what broke the streak: I got a misprint of “The Games-Players of Titan" which had the first ten pages missing and the next ten pages doubled up. By the time I had a different printing (and an ebook version) I had lost momentum; on the other hand I had skipped to "Lies, Inc." which had an extended prologue that sets up "Ratatouille" and also a violently disorienting depiction of a militarized hallucinogen delivered via small-arms fire that sets up “Gravity's Rainbow”
@flockofnazguls I don't think i made it to that one as an insomnia read, but I think it was one of his more optimistic ones in that Eldritch was defeated.
I know better than to read anything in the VALIS trilogy after 4PM though
If IBM had actually made a prototype Doomsday Machine for the BLAND Corporation, it would have been designated the AN/FSQ-114, built around two HAL-9000 mainframes for redundancy
imagining something that cannot and should not exist:
A prequel to Dr. Strangelove in which Colonel Ripper is courted by Soviet diplomats, Chinese spies, defense contractors, the John Birch Society, and the Jesuits all vying to influence his pliable mind. Meanwhile, the two brains of the Doomsday Machine argue and become more erratic, threatening to make the world uninhabitable. Strangelove comes in and defuses the situation, talking a terrified Group Captain Mandrake through disabling the erratic HAL-9000 primary unit. Ripper comes up with his own paranoid fantasy independently of the spies, just as his superior and golfing buddy Major General Turgidson signs his promotion. The HAL-9000 B unit, hallucinating a Soviet first strike, triggers its cobalt jacketed bomb and triggers the end of the world.
There would be no sequel because fuck you this is just Dr. Strangelove again and prequels ruin everything and those fuckers are totally going to make this
Why do I love #Brigador? The gameplay is perfectly tightened mayhem, the art style is peak 2d isometric, the soundtrack is all bangers, the playlist of songs after which each mission is named is pure platinum, and the lore is what if Dune was written by William Gibson
@flockofnazguls co-op could be a blast, but there can be no co-op because the lore clearly implies that any two Brigadors in the same zone will be paid to eliminate each other. Did you play the last expansion with the pilotable Zardoz?
