Anyone have experience with splice or feature.fm?
Also, has anyone used the TIL app before? I want to join some guitar masterclasses taught by Caitlin Caggiano but I can’t vet the app for security so I’m looking for anyone that’s used it without any issues to reassure me :breathe:

4+ years into COVID and many still missing the nuances:

Often 6ft isn't enough, but increasing physical distance reduces risk

N95s are much better, but surgical masks do help

Outdoors is safer, but you can still catch it

Vaccines reduce transmission, but don't eliminate it

There's some kind of saw chord synth thing I'm trying to recreate. It comes from LMFAO's Party Rock, Giga's Bring it on, and probably quite a few dubstep songs. Try as I may, I simply cannot figure out how to do it. I'm attaching a sample of the saw chord from Bring it on to this post. If anyone can tell me how to make this sound, I'd appreciate it. #Musician #Music

Ok #GearSquad buddies, if I would like to lengthen the sustain on clean, and thicken/widen the notes on the higher strings, what effects chain in Logic would you all recommend? I don’t have enough space to get any pedals yet except for the mirrorhouse and the KinKin gummy bear chorus pedal. So for now I’m using the DAW. Thanks!! I can track the higher end parts separately so that I don’t over amplify the lower end parts, if that will help get what I’m going for on the high end. :blobcatcoffee:

@ambergrey Compression plus finger technique. There are many fancy compressors but even a simple one might do what you want. And you can affect thickness and sustain by adjusting how and where you pluck the string, and the strength of your fretting fingers. Check out www.ovnilab.com/faq.shtml for some compression tips.

The Universal Audio MAX pedal does both types of compression in one unit.

Another way to increase sustain that I don't see mentioned yet is to increase string tension. You can put heavier strings on (which would also require new intonation and trek recalibration, maybe even widening some nut slots). But if sustain is something you want all the time, it is worth it.

He was deported to Auschwitz from Caserne Dossin in Mechelen on 1 December 1942. He did not survive.

Recording in the basement tonight. Got the main rhythm acoustic guitar track done for the new song. A good start. Used the solid top, back and sides all mahogany Godin acoustic. Recording with a CAD GXL1200 small diaphragm 48v condenser mic. I might double track another acoustic in high-strung Nashville tuning for the chorus. Pondering where to go next with it. Got my Hohner B harp for the solo parts. No drums. I’ll use a shaker though. Sleep on it. #music #recording #songwriting #gearsquad

I’ve been taking days off and working later at night this week. Actually got the main vocals done in a new tune completed. Just need to finish comping the takes, then add harmonies in the outro. My collaborator is pushing me to get this album completed and distributed.

I am not a great singer, but something that is making my recording sessions go better is adding outboard effects to my vocal monitoring.

I record through a small mixer (ZEDi10), which makes it easy to split the mic signal and run it out to a reverb pedal and back into the board for monitoring.

Without some reverb, I find it hard to hear my vocals while recording. With some (ok, a lot) it's much easier!

I'm sure this isn't news to a lot of you :)

When I'm not writing, playing or recording music, I like to pretend I'm a luthier. This was a recent kit build (not really a luthier) of a Thoman Jazzmaster guitar. Plays and sounds better than I ever expected.
