Public Service Announcement: If you ever need to add a very obscure #language to a piece of software and you can't find an #ISO 639 code for it, remember that ISO 639-2 defines a special range for that.

All codes between "qaa" and "qtz" (inclusive) are free to be used for anything.

So just use one of those instead of hacking some ugly special case in your #software or adding some non-standard code.

I've been upgrading the GUI system for #Repixture lately, upgrading from the ancient Minetest formspec version 1 to version 7. The new version makes work much simpler, as version 1 was pretty awful to work with (confusing coordinate system).

The player won't see this change, but here's a screenshot of the new armor page I made after the upgrade to version 7:

🎉 #Repixture version 3.13.0 is here! 🎉

This is a BIG technical update that completely replaces the old mob system (animals, monsters, villagers) with a complete new one written for Repixture specifically. The creatures of the world should now behave somewhat better, plus the new system is very extensible.

The sad and short-lived story of a #racist homophobic troll on my #Pride Flags repository:

Act 1: The #troll tells me they want to #abuse all #gay people.
Act 2: Post gets deleted and the troll gets banned by #Codeberg #moderation before I even checked the repo.

The End.

That’s how it’s done. Don’t feed the trolls. I’d have deleted the post myself but #Codeberg was faster.

In #Repixture, I've taught villagers the ability to escape most water hazards and some situations in which they are stuck. I also gave them new clothing.

The whole mobs update takes way longer than I hoped because there are so many edge cases.

With the new pathfinder for #Repixture, this unlocks some potential for the village people:

▶️ Ability to climb ladders
▶️ Ability to find a path through doors
▶️ Don't walk a path through thistles and other ouchy blocks

This still needs to be coded, however, but I make progress.

You have no idea how much work it was to teach that villager how to walk through that door. 😉

Today I've created a new pathfinder for #Repixture. The game engine I use (#Minetest) already has a built-in pathfinder, but it lacks features. The downside of my pathfinder is that it is slower, but I compensate that with support for asynchronous execution.

My pathfinder is able to detect climbable nodes, jump restrictions, it's possible to tell the pathfinder which blocks it can and can't walk through. All things the built-in pathfinder can't do (yet).

In #NYT's rationale to go after 100s of #Wordle clones, they keep bringing up a new term: "copyrighted #gameplay".

This language is EXTREMELY dangerous. NYT MUST NOT get away with this. Else, other companies will feel motivated to go after ANY #clone or even just game that is "similar enough". It could be their slow death.

This is 100% an attack on #gaming itself as the gaming world was always very derivative.

Good that #copyright does NOT cover mere ideas.

Good #Repixture news! The #mobs rework is going well. Now I've finally reimplemented all the mobs of the previous version with most of their basic functionality working again. The only major missing feature now is aggressive behavior, the rest is bugfixing.

I'm now approaching the "code cleanup" phase and hopefully I'll be able to finally make a release.

I'm happy to announce I have recently become a member of the #Forgejo #Localization Team!

Basically I contribute to the #Forgejo project by maintaining and watching over the #German #translation. While the translation is currently complete, I always notice mistakes from time to time, and of course, software updates require translation updates as well.
I already fixed a number of mistakes.

(Oh boy, I have no idea in how many FOSS projects I'm an active translator. 😅)

To anyone out there, feeling confused or pressured because people expect you to fall in #love, to have romantic feelings, but those feelings just never come for some reason: You are not alone. It's okay. Maybe #romance just isn't your thing.

But that doesn't mean you're broken. Society expects from us we will all seek out romantic relationships eventually but in reality, that's not true. There are many exceptions. And it still works out in the end.
