Nikki Haley's family could only immigrate because Black civil rights leaders reformed America's racist immigration laws in 1965 to allow Asians to immigrate. Her father then taught at an HBCU.

For her to ignore slavery as the root of the civil war & now claim America was never at all racist is a level of anti-Black racism we typically only see from actual Nazis & KKK members. Truly horrifying.

@QasimRashid this is a thing I find a lot of Indians don't want to think about. As colonial subjects, they (we) are sometimes radical but also just as often capable of holding deeply internalized racist beliefs and cowardly, concessionist positions. i generally have such a carefully managed TL that I don't see the annoying reply-people that Mastodon is known for...but i just saw a post from an NYC hashtag that says there's no culture of recycling in NYC, based on...an anecdote.

I mean, yes, recycling in the US is/seems mostly made up! But there IS a culture of it, and esp. in NYC. We put a lot of time cleaning stuff and putting stuff it in different bins! How dare an outsider suggest we don't have these futile rituals! ARghhhh!

Today’s commuting drama: got to the F to find the next train would be 19 minutes! So i walked 10 minutes to the E stop. Probably will make my train (?) but i am quite sweaty already—basically my normal commuting state, though it’s been a while

So I got an #OMNY card today but the machine wouldn't accept my benefits card. Then, because i'm sick of having to choose between not getting my free rides after 12 rides OR getting out a credit card at the turnstyle, I registered my card online and put money on it from my benefits card that way, which, before I was exhausted from the dumb machine, I remembered saying I would never do. This is how they get you, sigh.

I'm reminded of that scene in 9-to-5 in which Dorothy installs a garage door opener with her son, where it's a sign of her autonomy as a single woman. Later, she uses the same product to literally hang up her misogynist boss. If that movie were made today, the plan to keep him away from the office would be thwarted by the fact that Mr. Hart owns stock in company with the app, ensuring that he extorts more money from Dorothy as she attempts to use the master's tools against him. 😑 @pluralistic

cats fighting again. easy enough to break it up, but again i worry about what happens when we're not home.

Cleo acts like she's hungry all the time & most of the cranky fighting happens when we're about 30 minutes from mealtime. She starts meowing a lot, and it gives Cloud anxiety.

Cloud would love to play non-stop and only eat when there's nothing to play with. Cleo doesn't want to play with him, and I think that's when the fights happen; he goes over to her and they get in a swatty thing.
