They have been slashing the tendons of our social contract in the good ol' U.S. of-fucking-A for as long as I can remember. They've lied, cheated and flat out stolen federal power in this country since Carter was in office. But we outnumber them. They are safe because we haven't decided to make them unsafe. That's it.

We’re living in such an upside world right now.

99% of have been peaceful yet those protesters have been attacked, arrested, ostracized by politicians and punished by administrators. And somehow it’s the protests that are supposed to outrage us.

And they’re protesting a war that’s been conducted consistent with Israel’s stated policy of collective punishment through the use of disproportional force against civilian infrastructure.

It’s utter madness.

@JoshuaHolland This is purely anecdotal but I work in a salon with a fairly politically diverse clientele and zero clients have railed on college students for the protests. Not one, at least to my knowledge. It isn't that they wouldn't. They would. They just haven't.

Which is irritating in having spent my life having to swat away all manner of unsolicited hocus pocus. But is, I guess, a generally positive attribute.

@StillIRise1963 @Holberg Same, here. And, phew, can I relate to that overstimulated feeling.

I started behaving around clients (as a hairstylist) the way I behave around horses. Pleasant and aware but "standing in still water" calm. Fortunately this works in a salon environment. Out in the wild, I don't think it would help much. But I feel you, both! 😅

Well... That was a horrible performance. Another DNF, after 11 miles, because I was certain I couldn't make my halfway cutoff.

Long story short: It's time to rule out a femoral neck stress fracture. Anything capable of hitting a 7/10 on the pain scale, with me, is seriously suspect. It may be SI joint aggravation, and that would be great news. But I want to rule out a stress fracture. For sure.

    @RickiTarr If it's a workout, and I'm really spent, I tell myself to get dressed for it, show up and do .5 mile, 30 mins (whatever minimal investment is for you) then decide. That's almost always enough to get the whole thing done.

    If it's a work thing, break it down: eat the elephant one bite at a time. If you're feeling especially reluctant it sometimes helps to "dress the part" here, too.

    Sometimes I get so overwhelmed I can’t stand it.

    I never, ever would have suspected growing up that in my “golden years,” I’d be consumed by the real and present dangers of catastrophic climate change and fascism in this country.

    Still fighting like hell, but that’s not the point of this post, so no need to tell me to “keep fighting, don’t give up.”

    I’m allowed, as you are, to feel scared, alarmed, overwhelmed sometimes.
