The word apartheid is Afrikaans for "separation."

The word hafrada is Hebrew for "separation," and this is what they call their policy of physical and legal separateness between Palestinian and Israeli civil society

They didn't even make the word mean a different thing

legally speaking, I wonder what gives people the right to put their hands on someone who is interrupting an event as part of a protest. They always do it and I don't know that anyone ever raises this question.

In most situations, putting your hands on someone is a legal line that you need some kind of reason to cross, like imminent physical harm. Not someone holding a sign and yelling.

I wonder what the earliest example of a "nice argument, but I have drawn you as a virgin and me as a Chad" from history was. I need an art historian to ask about this important question.

I'm shocked how similar of a schedule I have with Ursula K LeGuin.

Minus the bit about the beach and getting that much work done

Hey liberals, is this making you feel a creeping unease? That these people don't care about the law and are subverting it for their own evil purposes?

Or is it still worse when Trump threatens and fires prosecutors

Bipartisan.

The Democrats (saviors of democracy) are teaming up with the Republicans (foes of democracy) to punish and defeat the International Criminal Court in the service of the bipartisan policy of starvation and genocide

Every time you ever said "send Trump to the Hague," this is the court you were referring to, and they want it destroyed

They keep flogging this "if the courts come for Israel, they'll come for the USA next."

I would love to know the results of a poll that just asks the question "should the USA follow international laws" sub-question "if the US government breaks those laws, should it bear consequences?"

saw a journalist asking Gazan kids why they were collecting armloads of Israeli warning pamphlets that are dumped from planes:

Kid 1: We sell them
Kid 2: Not your business
Kid 3: Toilet paper
Kid 4: For the fire

It is funny to see people saying "those white leftists all of a sudden virtue signaling with their keffiyeh." Like it's a new development

If you look up any right wing political cartoon from 1990 through 2016, leftists are going to be portrayed 1. As a hippie. 2. Wearing a keffiyeh 3. Wearing a Che shirt

They have been red and nude about the keffiyehs for so long, and do you have any idea how long it takes people like that to catch on?

Seinfeld is getting a lot of flak for having incredibly old references. A lot of people use old references that do work with younger audiences.

This is giving younger people too little credit and not shitting on people like Seinfeld hard enough. Because it's not that his references are that old, they just were never good or memorable

A thought that hasn't left my head since Al Aqsa Flood began:

Joe Kassabian the podcaster and genocide studier said when you thoroughly dehumanize your enemy, it makes you more willing to accept a war, but it simultaneously makes you worse at fighting them.

If you think of your enemy as a brute, unthinking animal who lives only to kill, then you can't envision them thinking tactically or outmaneuvering you. You ignore their reasons for fighting you, so you don't understand them.

It's nuts in Star Trek that they postulate nobody would know how to cook anymore bc of replicators. True cooking perverts would love the opportunity to have a kitchen where you could get any quantity of any ingredient instantly, AND (maybe more impressive) any cooking implement.

I could use a huge wok or waffle iron or food processor without worrying about where to put it. Just chuck it back in the replicator with the dishes when you're done

New levels of food perversion unlocked
