@eoinoneill Thank you! There's a lot of lighting luck involved, but I'd like to think I've gotten pretty good at handling the thing after all those years..

One thing that is annoying about dev tools like Tiled or Aseprite is that they don't warning you if you open a read-only file. Version control uses this flag to say the file is locked. You accidentally open a locked file and make a bunch of changes, get a save warning, then unlock the file and it pulls down new changes and you overwrite them.

Difegue,
@Difegue@kolektiva.social avatar

@grumpygamer Git LFS does not have this problem :^)

(do not actually use git lfs for game development)

Difegue,
@Difegue@kolektiva.social avatar

@grumpygamer well, git won't let you fetch a file update if you have a copy that's been modified locally (unless you discard your changes or push them to a separate branch) so it sidesteps the entire issue right?
It doesn't make files RO as well, so you wouldn't have any issues saving to begin with.

Although Perforce/locking is the standard so I certainly agree editors should handle it properly..

With the right hardware in a custom cartridge, you could totally use fedi on a gameboy

Difegue,
@Difegue@kolektiva.social avatar

@SuperDicq @olivvybee of course it is, more and more retro replacement parts run off chips that are magnitudes more powerful than the aging hardware they interop with

Also see even though it's only tangentially related but dope: The SuperRT chip for the snes https://youtube.com/watch?v=VeFF344NbZ4

another fun, fairly obscure, game soundtrack title: Greg LoPiccolo's "Hospital - Alternate" from System Shock.

SS has some great tracks, but the musical qualities really depend upon the quality of MIDI synth you're working with. even with a real Roland SC-55, it's a bit flat sounding.

in a pretty rare move for Origin Systems - they released a Macintosh/PowerPC version of System Shock. there was a bunch of extra space on the CD, and LoPiccolo took advantage of it by rendering and remastering his own redbook audio tracks. they're great - far better than a vanilla SC-55. he took a lot of extra time to customize his instruments and play with the stereo separation.

so here it is, freshly ripped from my macintosh CD.

Difegue,
@Difegue@kolektiva.social avatar

@vga256 The shock 1 mac soundtrack is pretty slept on; I think only the nightdive remaster tops it but then again it released 25+ years later..

For the longest time I thought this sick Reactor mix was part of that soundtrack but I'm pretty sure it isn't despite the video title: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfjIpc_Lbjk

Did you know almost 45% of #dotnet developers still use the .NET Framework (legacy)? That's more than any other runtime currently available in the ecosystem.

Join Isaac Levin and me tomorrow for another #JetBrians Livestream and learn how to migrate to newer runtimes. (boosts appreciated).

@khalidabuhakmeh one of these days we'll get off 4.7.2..

the fact modern .NET is not bundled in windows in a reliable way like netfx is probably one of the biggest reasons people aren't moving on though, I'm guessing that number is mostly LoB/small apps

And it now comes with a Mac version! With Mac-only features like Omniview and local shells. Better yet, you get both apps automatically — for the price of one.

Key highlights include:
• Visual Studio for Mac 17 Shell
• High-Density Fluent
• Welcome Screen for Xamarin Studio & Visual Studio for Mac
• Xamarin macOS Application Icons

I still want to add a lot, but that needs to wait until I recharge a bit. Let me invite you to the portfolio’s humble beginnings.

    Microsoft is so desperate for you to care about their AI code plagiarism product. In the last 48 hours I have seen banner ads for "Copilot" in the GitHub UI in:

    • The code view, looking at the contents of a single file;
    • Briefly flashing on the screen during the "now forking…" interstitial page while forking a repo;
    • In the "clone" dialog, when trying to clone a repo?!

    Clone HTTPS, SSH, GitHub CLI Download ZIP "Code 55% faster with AI pair programming" "Start my free trial" "Don't show again"
