There is something very powerful about a perspective that views all living things as members of our family.
Perhaps our awareness of our own flaws makes it acceptable to us to ignore the suffering of other humans, but it is not so easy to ignore the suffering of other creatures.
They did nothing to deserve what we are doing to them and their habitats.
Making the future of humanity not just about humans, but about the rest of our family, may well be the key to achieving some real long-term progress.
So there are two baby bunnies that call my yard home. First is a fearless fur fren who doesn’t hop away when I walk by. Second little dude thinks he’s pretty sneaky. Third pic is the first sugar snaps of the season. 🥰
Went for a walk, noticed a starling flying away from a hole in a tree, looked more closely, saw a starling chick!
I waited a few minutes hoping to film a parent feeding the chick – but then I got worried that my presence might be keeping the parents away, so I left.
(Side note: If baby ducks are known as ducklings, shouldn't young starlings be called starlinglings?)
Still too wet to go #mtb so instead I did one of my favorite things: hike into the trails and then head in random directions through the woods as the mood struck.
First off: vernal pools everywhere! Also, Red Efts. Still a little too cool for mushrooms, maybe in a week or two?
Lots of photos, so this will be a thread of some favs: vernal pools, Efts, and so much moss.
Ah, ain't #Hypercapitalism wonderful. As so often the case the #USA is 1st to explore the extremes of its glorious extent.
We all love #Nature and #Wildlife and the US has the most beautiful national parcs to endulge it. But we can't go all at once, right? Need permits so it doesn't get too crowded. And you can enter a lottery so it seems fair.
A perfect opportunity to exploit! When using a lottery most $$$ go to Booz Allen Hamilton government and #military contractor.
A rare albino echidna has been spotted in central west NSW.
The echidna, christened “Raffie,” was seen wandering around by a staff member of Bathurst regional council.
The council has released pictures of the rare mammal it says “is just too beautiful not to share” but is warning locals to be considerate:
"If you see Raffie out, please feel free to take a couple of snaps but do not approach, touch, or try and contain him. It is important to leave wildlife alone, as you could risk them losing their scent trail or leaving young unattended in the burrow. Of course, if you spot any injured wildlife, please contact WIRES." #animals#nature#wildlife#echidna#monotreme#WildlifePhotography#NaturePhotography#Australia
The roads to the interior of Yellowstone reopened to private vehicles this past month. Springtime is finally arriving and with the melting of the snow comes spring babies. #Yellowstone#NationalPark#Wildlife#Nature
