One of my super powers is that I can very quickly and accurately identify dinosaurs.

For example. Look at this image.

Yes. Definitely a dinosaur.

That took me under 2 seconds.

Ok, 2 seconds: name a marine reptile that lives in Antarctica.

Following on from the Redwing, we have this Fieldfare. Probably my worst quality image I took today, but its a cracking bird. Like the Redwing, this bird is also a thrush but it is much bigger.

Orca hunt was like ‘a military exercise’ — scientist describes unexpected encounter on Cape West Coast

It is now more than clear that small craft, like whale-watching boats, need to keep their distance from orcas.

An experiment with bonobos and chimpanzees suggests the great apes remember their friends and family even after years apart.

Louise, a bonobo who participated in the study, recognized a sister she had last seen 26 years ago, in what is now evidence of the “longest-lasting nonhuman social memory” on the scientific record.

So many Robins and it would be a shame to just pass them by, so I didn't. Traditional woodland photo of a friendly and common UK/European bird

Long-tailed tits are everywhere this year. I think maybe I'm seeing more of them than Robins.

There is a herd of elk on Ft. Riley, a nearby Army training base (which has thousands of acres of grassland); these critters were reintroduced there sometime in the 1980s. They have done well, population-wise. And since there are no fences to hold them in, they now wander to places off the fort. This group of about 40 elk was photographed yesterday just southwest of Manhattan KS, at a location that is 3 or so miles outside the boundaries of the fort.

Sometimes we see photos of cute or nice looking animals on here.

I just saw one taken in daylight where the creatures (who, in this case, are nocturnal) were looking right into the camera which had used a flash.

Why is that ok? How is it ok to disturb wildlife, or creatures that live with us, all in the name of cute photos?

Please consider the potential distress your search for the best photo might be causing.
