Went for a walk, noticed a starling flying away from a hole in a tree, looked more closely, saw a starling chick!

I waited a few minutes hoping to film a parent feeding the chick – but then I got worried that my presence might be keeping the parents away, so I left.

(Side note: If baby ducks are known as ducklings, shouldn't young starlings be called starlinglings?)

The same scene, but now the chick is looking right, presenting in profile.

Kenno,

@doersino What? No, Starlets! Many baby birds have a colourful patch within the back part of the roof of their mouth. I once wrote a thesis proposal to examine if it was a visual cue to i) identification, b) regurgitation. I ended up working with cannibal new-rat-moms, instead. That was the last thing I did in the field of child protection.

@doersino I expect starlinglings would be prodigy violinists.
