A ‘conservation conundrum’ – when rat control to conserve one species threatens another (theconversation.com)

The sad case of the Norfolk Island morepork shows we need a way to control or eradicate invasive rodents without killing native species. When pest rats and mice decimate populations of native species, pest control is a no-brainer. But what if baiting rats protects threatened songbirds, while poisoning critically endangered owls?...

Often when we discuss Solarpunk, particularly as an aesthetic, we tend to focus on lush, green forests and fields. As somebody who grew up in either swampland or desert/Chaparral regions, I tend to view the former vision as a bit...narrow. To me, the powerful vision of Solarpunk is one in which we are united with the diverse Eco-systems of our planet, which can include regions not traditionally thought of or considered.

Brazil is grappling with one of its worst floods in recent history. Torrential rains have drenched the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, home to 11 million people, since late April and have triggered severe flooding that has submerged entire towns, blocked roads, broken a major dam and shut down the international airport until June.
