It really doesn’t matter how many times, how often, or how badly #Vermont#floods, people have proven they aren’t going to change their lives. #Vermonters are wedded to irrationally nostalgic sentimentalism, fossil fuels, and pastoral delusions. Only once these fantasies are completely destroyed by Mother Nature and they are forced out of their homes by #climate#disaster will the people of #VT begin to change, at which point, it will of course be far too late. We must make land common property.
I'm a writer, photographer & former newspaper editor. I'm beginning the 10th draft of my first novel, #HiramFalls & have had 5 character sketches from it presented on stage. A 6th this week in 7 shows.
On Mastodon I've used prompts to take & condense scenes from my book into 500-character posts. Great exercise.
Now I post daily stories w. photos to help me notice things. Thoughts?

August 24, 1983: The final summit of the day was 2850-foot Baker Peak, which the Appalachian Trail ascended after leaving the lake. This was the lowest summit of the day, so I was not expecting much.
This scene no longer exists. A house was built on this land, in a gentrified #Vermont town.
I used to print this on Agfa Portriga paper and tone it hard with selenium to get those rusty tones.
I think the new house in this place was done by the architect who designed a house for me and an ex in a previous incarnation. A “dream house,” but glad to wake up from the nightmare I lived in it.
Update from the ~3:30 PM NWS Burlington Forecast Discussion: #WinterStorm on track, with snowfall intensity over 1” per hour Monday morning. Scattered to numerous power outages anticipated due to wet #snow accumulation and gusty winds, particularly below 1500 feet. #VTwx#Vermont#Weather#Winter
Did anyone notice the #Wallgreens covid tracker is now named “respiratory index”? Lol I mean, it’s still only tracks #Covid so it’s fine, but it’s funny they renamed it.
Also, #Vermont was at 40% positivity? JFC. Now that it’s “only” at 30% it’s a pretty green because it decreased.
A poster tube is an important part of every scientist's gear.
In this clip from a recent conversation University of #Vermont based Cluster member Bren Cable describes where her poster tube came from and why it meant so much to her.
As day breaks, roads are flooded, schools are closed or delayed and emergency shelters are open. The latest flood event in #Vermont is on a different scale compared to July, but the impacts are real and frustrating for communities that once again are facing clean-up.
Save the date. March 2nd, 2024 at noon. Don't let them fool you. The average American is closer to being unhoused than they are to being a millionaire. Fighting poverty is literally a matter of our own survival.
The last time I tried a #running steak in January 2020, I got eleven days in before I got COVID.
Almost four years later, I'm finally feeling up for trying again, aiming to hit at least a mile every day between US Thanksgiving and New Year's Day 🤞 #RunAmanda
Day 23 of #RunAmanda did happen, but posting was delayed.
Don't let the smile fool you. Gorgeous blue skies and warmer temps yet again show I am a foul weather runner. Looking forward to the storm coming in the next few days.
