#Proton / #DXVK-Integration in #Steam.

    I like automation.

    I'm the guy who made "Firefox Automatic Install of Linux" just to save time from having to install Firefox manually.

    I would prefer verbal over point and click, and would prefer point and click over typing in a terminal window.

    My vision of the future is asking a computer to do something with my voice and it does it. Try to imagine the computer on the Enterprise (from Star Trek).

    If AI ever gets smart enough that I can add it to my desktop, I will be one of the first.

    Linux_Is_Best,

    @WillA763 @vwbusguy I think I'm going to bow out of this conversation. It's become circular.

    Suffice to say I can understand why a lot of developments and businesses are moving to Debian and Ubuntu. As of late, I have even encountered at least one Arch system in the wild.

    Another pile of interesting updates to /drm/amd/display in #Linux 6.4.5, but it failed the Ubuntu PPA build and isn't available. 6.4.4 failed too, so I'm probably waiting for a bit for the build to be repaired.

    johnefrancis,
    @johnefrancis@mastodon.social avatar

    they did move to gcc-13 at 6.4.4

    6.4.6 is out today, and the PPA build is working again because gcc-13 was made available in the build environment.

    My first attempt at installing 6.4.6 failed, because my dkms modules were building with gcc-12, and the downloaded kernel was built with gcc-13.

    So I installed gcc-13, and now my dkms modules rebuild correctly and allow the kernel installation to complete.

    Time to reboot into 6.4.6!

    What was the first distribution you installed / attempted to install?

    For me - a Debian user - it was gentoo, around 2003, which was a mistake.

    tpuddle,

    @neil
    I installed #Mandrake #Linux, probably around 20 years ago. I also tried Corel Linux at one stage.
    Mandrake morphed into #Mandriva.
    Then maybe ten years ago I moved onto #Ubuntu, and I've been on #XUbuntu ever since.

    Many of you ask me how I can stay in the fight. How I am not beaten down by the dark forces of authoritarianism which are very much with us, as are growing inequality and corruption. I mean this when I say it: because of you. This includes all of you on social media, and in my classroom.

    <<Ubuntu is a Nguni Bantu term meaning "humanity". It is sometimes translated as "I am because we are" (also "I am because you are"), or "humanity towards others" (Zulu umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu). In Xhosa, the latter term is used, but is often meant in a more philosophical sense to mean "the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity".>>

    @Shinoa @limepot yes and no...

    If a company can backport stuff to Windows like XP and they certainly can support the major distros like / , / / and ...

    So back on Firefox.

    Did an update and got this in @Vivaldi

    Your updates can't break things completely. Especially not on the stable branch.

    kkarhan,

    @fuchsiii @thelinuxcast @Vivaldi yeah, #glibc makes long-term support outside of #LTS distros like #RHEL, #SLES / #SLED, #OracleLinux and #Ubuntu LTS basically impossible unless one is a hardcore #Stallmanist and hates everything not #GPL-licensed and would rather want to see #Users suffer than accept that #CCSS is as valid to exist as #FLOSS...

    iambozdar, to random

    @Vivaldi Does Vivaldi's built-in Mail client import login credentials to the server and then push the fetched emails to the client? Is this how it works? 🤔

    iambozdar,

    @Vivaldi Fantastico! Now these are a few reasons among many that #Vivaldi is my default #browser on #Ubuntu. :blobcatthumbsup:

    OK entre Firefox qui a décidé de planter régulièrement au moindre prétexte depuis quelques temps, et cet abruti d’Ubuntu qui est même pas foutu de restaurer automatiquement les différentes fenêtres dans leur espace de travail respectif quand je le relance (ce qui m’oblige à les y déplacer manuellement à chaque fois) c’est un tout petit peu relou là. 😬

    So, I repaired my Macbook Pro 2012 (mbp 9,2) and I'm unsure what to put on it (It'll be my daily driver for school).

    I really like #GNOME, but fear it will be too resource-intensive and kinda laggy on the 4gb of ram the laptop has. I want to stick with #Fedora if possible aswell. I looked into cutefish, but it seems unmantained and not realistically available for fedora (couldnt get the copr to work).
    Do i use GNOME anyways? Does anyone have good tips on how to make it more lightweight? #Linux

    Urgh, more time wasted due to snap software installations.

    Using kubectl and kustomize from snaps which has been fine until I tried to setup an external plugin, where kustomize complained it couldn't find the binary in the path. Because it has an entirely different view of the filesystem!

    I'd turned to strace to investigate, which doesn't work with snap but it reminded me the tool was running with snap at least!
