I just woke up from a vivid nightmare about attending an #Ubuntu conference.
I was tasked with serving coffee. But no one liked my #coffee. Not a single person.
They said it was too strong, too bitter. I tried explaining its quality, its origins, and why it was a terrific blend, but I lacked the vocabulary to do it. I couldn't convince them.
It was terrible.
(I don't know why this was set at an Ubuntu conference, but it was an awesome, bonding, beautiful event in my head).
#Lenovo#Yoga3Pro#Ubuntu#Linux
The thing that is really appealing to me here is the sandbox nature of the #API. If you are any good in a command shell it is so cool. I use #PowerShell (#Ubuntu). I am working on a bot to auto block thegx follow requests. Making it more useful than that though. I’m thinking a way of looking at the requester and interrogating their account. Were they created today? Do they have a default avatar? No posts? Does their name appear in my blocked/mute list? #Scripting
It's a neat little OS. Kinda halfway between #NetBSD and #OpenBSD's razor focus and minimalism, and #Linux's sprawling feature set and bloat.
It's a stupid rubric, but I always judge a system by mount |wc -l (taking into account if there are many actual volumes mounted). If there's more than 10 non-disk volumes by default, that's kind of silly.
I just published a short guide explaining how to upgrade PostgreSQL 🐘 from version 14 to 15 on Ubuntu 23.04 (Lunar Lobster) 🦞 after upgrading it from version 22.10 (Kinetic Kudu) 🐐
So, is #Ubuntu Software just the snap store with another name now? All apps I find there seem to be snaps. In the past, the Software Center also offered package-based apps. Has that changed or is that a symptom of a broken install?
(I used 18.04 until a few days ago so sorry for missing a lot in newer developments)
Okay, we need to talk, especially those who are tech-savvy.
I love you all, but let's not start immediately creating a new Linux with #Mastodon or #Fediverse in general.
The #Linux community, when a distro like #Ubuntu started to gain popularity, quickly made it a target to almost take down. And, to be honest, they were not particularly friendly in their speeches or reflections to newbies who decided to take the plunge. 1/3
Me: "ok, but what if we built $60 'NanoMirrors' which literally only had enough disk space for Ubuntu ISOs and EPEL and just salted the earth with these jokers?"
@nixCraft my rebuttal is that if I am using the #Debian#Linux on my #Chromebook I am still a Linux user. For that matter I am more in the weeds than someone that installs #Ubuntu and just knows how to use the DE. 😛
