I'm a university library sysadmin by day. Longtime Linux user and fan (:arch: on desktop, :debian: on servers) trying to selfhost as many services as possible (mainly on :raspberrypi: but a fan of SBCs in general).

Other hobbies include photography (enthusiastic amateur, mainly landscapes), tea drinking and physics/astronomy.

A mixture of video (two puffins) and simple drawn animation (one person). The figure on the left raises their arms, then proceeds to jump wildly while flapping arms for a couple of seconds. There is a pause, then the two puffins follow suit, flapping their wings wildly. Then it repeats.

@Sarah111well ooh exciting! Are you going for battery storage along with the solar panels?

@Sarah111well sadly not. My parents' neighbours have solar, but it was installed years ago before battery storage was a viable option.

I did however follow @welshpixie 's solar installation with great interest earlier this year, and was impressed by how much power they generated (slight advantage being in South Africa of course).

There's an idea, what about an automated update on the battery status, and a sibling for Buttbot - Battbot!

Wondered why my 2.4GHz WiFi was so slow, so had a look on WiFiAnalyser. Blimey, my neighbours have a lot of routers/access points!

I count 13 SSIDs other than mine pretty much flooding the whole spectrum. I'm sat a couple of metres from my access point, yet I'm competing with a neighbour's wireless HP Deskjet in terms of signal strength!

    Oh boy, work was bad. Work was very, very bad. I did badly in my training in all 4 hours and got constant negative feedback. And somehow I've got to take myself back there for at least another year until there's any chance it won't feel like this?

    I've never played the lottery in my life but today I signed up to play the Euro Millions twice a week in the hopes that I don't have to do this any more.

    Desperate times.

    @miffyhelen that sounds like a nightmare, I really hope that most work days are much better than this for you. I just realised I have no idea what you do, but it seems to require a heck of a lot of horrible training.

    @miffyhelen Oh wow, out of the frying pan into the fire! I remember you had mentioned something about aviation so that make sense. I can imagine that job is horribly stressful. Hopefully the training gets better soon.

    Apparently something is happening across the pond but I'm still going to use #mugshot because the ducks deserve it.

    The mug I didn't buy yesterday is secretly in use! It will soon be washed and put back in the cupboard because me and a friend have a bet going for how long it will take to be noticed.

    It's deceptively large and the handle is comfortable to hold. And it has ducks on it!

    Nooooo ! The news at ten has just said that the UK is no longer a nation of tea drinkers ! Where hsve you all gone and why? I'm shocked as I for one could not function with out my tea. Earl grey is a personal favourite of mine.

    @gersande Oh yes, that's an excellent book. That reminds me, one of his other books, Reality is Not What it Seems, is probably the best book I have read in the last 5 or 10 years.
