I'm writing a longer (as it seems) article on the lock-in effect of solutions like #Obsidian that are using open formats like #Markdown for storage. The file format is not the only thing that might lock you in.
I did already start with a list of arguments but also want to collect your ideas so that I don't forget a good argument.
Please, no emotions, just facts and objective arguments.
Reply here in this thread and I'll collect ideas from it. 🙇
They're working on a DB version in parallel that will provide better scalability, performance and realtime #collaboration (#RTC). They'll charge for RTC.
Unfortunately, this seems to be the end for #orgdown markup as they are implementing #Markdown only now and a conversion feature later on. 😞
Therefore, logseq is not an option for me any more and I'll need to think about a migration strategy for my wife.
I use it for over half a year now to write almost daily all the relevant stuff from my brain into it and it's super awesome to see interconnected data that I can use to get information and really knowledge out of.
My notes are #PlainText first, #Markdown second. They're highly portable between platforms, apps, and devices. #macos and #ios are my weapons of choice, but they'd look and work the same on #android and #Windows.
Just got syncthing setup! Can write markdown on the go, have it sync to my notes repo, then just commit and push when I get home! If anyone is intimidated by syncthing, its really not as hard as it sounds from others describing it! Also tested it with #Logseq and worked brilliantly.
I’m looking for alternatives to #emacs#orgmode for #iPadOS . I used to ssh’d to a remote machine with Emacs, but it isn’t that good even with Mosh. Suggestions? Halp! 🆘
At the end of the day, I want to use the org-roam note-taking plugin. I know about #Logseq but I wonder if there’s something else to look for 👀
Started trying out both #Obsidian and #Logseq about a month or so ago as #PKM systems. In researching, I came across the #PARA method of organizing digital information.
'm finding it very interesting. It has made me think about the information I create and collect in new ways and how much time I've wasted trying to create the perfect organizational system.
However, I would love to do a deep dive into other systems or methods.
This year I wanna get into doing diligent note-taking: #Obsidian vs #Logseq, which is the better option? Or something else entirely? My only real requirements are having a Linux app and an Android one being a nice-to-have.
My words for 2024 is going to be #CognitiveLoad (thanks @ironicbadger ), which is something I am going to reduce. I love #selfhost and #homelab but limited time means limited brain power. So this year I decided to support #foss services to save my limited brain power. Started with #logseq and #Fosstodon. I can't support all the ones I enjoy but hoping to spread my limited funding around each month.
#emacs#logseq anyone have a working setup with logseq (in orgdown) and #orgroam playing nice in logseq's folder (orgroam dailies in 'journals', etc)? Currently my vault is a mix of org and md but I'm hoping to at least get the org files recognized while I work on converting the md (or figure out #mdroam). I tried playing with org-logseq but even though I'm matching correctly on its grep for the folder and I have title properties I couldn't get it working after a good attempt. #askfedi
Dear #logseq and #obsodian users, #git is not a backup system. Store your notes in a reposotory, if you must, but please configure a backup for your notes.
Hey #PKM people, as it seems fashionable here to humblebrag by posting screenshots of graphs: What exactly are the benefits of a graph view? Aren't bi-directional links just simpler and thus more effective?
@Tutanota I've been using #logseq for the past year. It's an awesome open-source combination of outliner/block-based notetaking mixed with electron-based feature-rich Zettlekasten's like Obsidian or Foam, and is similarly file based meaning low lock-in risks and easy integration with other tools. It also has a lot of cool features like Datalog integration, pdf & video tools, a nice mobile app, and lots of great opinionated defaults. I've been only using md, but it also supports org formatting.
The past month of waiting for a response on my lost data has been stressful, and #Logseq's contradictory replies have been incredibly disappointing.
Unfortunately, this type of #dataloss due to #LogseqSync is pretty common, as I'm starting to find out.
It's heartbreaking to part ways with a tool and community that I've learned so much from, but I can no longer trust the software project, and regret recommending it.
Anyone can recommend personal #wiki engine / notetaking with sync that has first-class #markdown support and can be easily edited on PC (#linux, #windows) and #iphone ? I don't really want #obsidian as it requires subscription that is comparable to e.g. #notion
@blami check out #Logseq (https://logseq.com): it's open source, cross platform, has mobile apps, is offline first, comes with exceptional Markdown (and org!) support, has a graph view, is extensible and roam like. Sync is in beta to supporters only but with #SyncThing it's fairly easy to do.
Or for a more nerdy solution, check-out #Emacs with #orgroam.
