iPadOS 17 has kinda borked emoji input from Bluetooth keyboards. Function-E? Ok, I guess. But then it should, you know, actually ENTER the emoji you tap on, shouldn’t it?
Probably a #pebkac issue or something I’ll get used to.

*In addition to online viewing, you can download most presentations in HD 1080p or SD 540p format on their scheduled day of release, but the keynote download is usually delayed (from my past experience).
PSA: if you’re using an external keyboard with iOS or iPadOS, and it does not have an Escape key, remember that Command-. does the trick most of the time.

iPadOS 18 could ship with built-in Calculator app, after 14 Calculator-less years
Imagine making a sophisticated piece of hardware, and yet the news that keeps popping up is how that hardware is missing calculator functions. So much so, that when you do decide to finally make a calculator app for your hardware, it's apparently news.
Can't tell whether this is hilarious or depressing.
Day 1 of using my #iPad as my computer and it’s going… well? There’s obviously some huge differences like being able to Adblock on a computer vs #iOS or #iPadOS but other things, like using #Firefox (I still want you, @Vivaldi!) are the same. Most sites I use work the same or have a native app.
🎬 Safari in #macOS 14 #iOS/ #iPadOS 17 removes tracking added to URLs in private browsing. The feature didn't support Twitter links when we tested it earlier. Now it does (unclear if #Apple updated it remotely or Safari learned that through its #AI model).
In this demo, Safari opens a Twitter link with tracking added to it in this parameter:

Safari identifies and removes the tracking parameter before opening the link. This is shown by copying the link after the website is loaded and pasting it to see that the tracking parameter has been removed from the original link 👍👍🙏
I tend to upload a #cycling video every day. It looks easy, but I’ve made a mess by cutting the videos into thousands of 2-3 seconds clips. It takes a lot of space and my Photo library in iCloud is around 1TB of data…🤣

Ich liebe FreeForm auf dem iPad. Mich stört einzig, dass man nicht automatisiert per Shortcut ein neues Blatt anlegen UND ihm auch einen Namen geben kann. Aktuell lege ich mir manuell für jeden Tag ein Blatt an und skribbele den ganzen Tag darauf rum - Notizen, Ideen, kleine Zeichnungen zur Ablenkung in langweiligen Meetings, etc. pp. Abends erfolgt dann ein kleines Review, die Todo-App wird gefüllt und relevante Notizen übertragen.
After thinking about it for a while, I’ve finally decided to give #Lockdown mode on #iOS and #iPadOS a go. First thing I noticed is that it didn’t auto-connect to my WiFi as usual, claiming it’s insecure 💀 more of a dig at my WiFi security than anything.
I’m interested in how it is gonna perform in day-to-day life and if I’d notice having turned it on as the only impacted piece of software mentioned by @techlore that I actually use is Safari.

I saw this article on Hacker News, and I've never felt more seen in my entire life. I gave away my iPad this year and I forgot until I saw this article - I always end up using my MacBook or my Thinkpad to get stuff done as the iPad is just utterly restricted at the software layer.
