What do you do when you're a happy camper but your partner is less keen on a night under canvas? Wally Byam's solution was to invent the Airstream, which started in the late 1920s as a wooden platform atop the chassis of a Ford Model T and by 1937 was a sleek aluminum-clad trailer marketed as "an airplane without wings ... luxurious in the extreme." Here, @Smithsonianmag looks at the origin and evolution of this American classic.

> How Far Can a Tesla Cybertruck ACTUALLY Tow? We Compare It To a Diesel Truck!

Spoiler Alert: it gets about a quarter of the distance and costs about $10 more for that.

If you're wondering why warranty repairs on your Tesla are taking so long, report that ALL warranty repairs there have to be personally approved by Mr. Musk 😂 https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaModelY/comments/1cnp13y/elon_himself_wtf/ #tesla #musk #warranty #automotive

Read the wild email Tesla is sending to suppliers amid Supercharger chaos

Supercharger projects being cancelled, including halting rollout in the entire country of Australia, including sites that had already been subject to long-term leases and given the go-ahead for construction which will now be abandoned

Why does this even exist? The other one from the pack of two is fine. Same part numbers on them, too. Somebody fucked up badly 😃

The box was retaped 🧐

Tesla with Elon is not headed in the right direction. Then asking shareholders for his $56 billion.

The fanboys must be so busy today! 😂

New #automotive paranoia:

We had a car drive itself into a tree. On its own. It isn't even an electric. Though I guess it wanted to be?

The fucking starter shorted out somehow, and the STARTER DROVE THE ENTIRE ENGINE. DESPITE THE PARKING BRAKE BEING ON.

I've never even heard of this failure mode. WTF.

Spring brings new springs. For the car.

And one less previous owner nonsense (red springs).

No exceptional difficulties, the bolts for the shock absorbers needed some convincing to come out, but nothing serious compared to salt-soaked marine diesel bolts.

No spring compressor required, with the shocks disconnected I gently let the rear axle down until the springs could be lifted out.

A rear coil spring from an Astra J. It's red, rusty and snapped in half, roughly in the middle.

In the same week that a whistleblower told members of a congressional hearing that Boeing is taking “manufacturing shortcuts” and “putting out defective airplanes,” the airplane manufacturer has announced its plans to launch its flying car business by the end of the decade.

Boeing CTO Todd Citron said the idea was to tap into demand “for the fast, short-distance travel the vehicles could provide in the region’s traffic-choked cities.” Here’s more from BGR.
