@glassbottommeg was it in gear? The starter turns the engine over, and I always park my car with it in gear (normally opposite to the gradient it’s on), so I would guess if the starter fired it’d have to move the car forward cos the clutch isn’t in… and the gear is engaged… but… I’ve never tried it cos I jump in, press the clutch, turn it over and drive off. I dunno what an automatic does? Do they leave it in neutral?
I remember when, learning to drive stick, people were like "if you're ever stalled on train tracks and the engine won't start, you can use the starter motor to move off the tracks."
Sounds a bit like that situation, except without the user input!
And I wonder if your model of car only applies parking brakes on rear wheels, while drive is on front wheels?
@dcfedor I genuinely tried to put together a "someone tried to steal the car, hit a tree and ran off" story in my head. Even though we live in the middle of nowhere in the woods. And there was clearly no attempt at breaking or hotwiring or anything.
Because that STILL felt like it made more sense, heh
@glassbottommeg starters are mechanical. Couldn’t you have turned the ignition off though? Might have locked the steering so probably not a good idea 😝
